our clinic advises against those, but YMMV

See ! Interesting. I’m curious as too rational. Why or why not

this article from Cedars-Sinai hospital in LA says there's little scientific evidence that these work. Sounds like a big profit maker for these places.

Ok. That made me laugh !

Have to admit I agree with @catwoman7. Your body doesn’t store all Vitamins only fat solvable ones, The Water soluble ones are excreted. B vitamins are water soluble you will literally be peeing out your $300+. A lot of money for bright yellow pee. And you’d need to get that IV every day.
https://medlineplus.gov/ency/article/002399.htm

Generally speaking I think a lot of people take vitamins & minerals they actually don’t need. I’m not saying we don’t need them after surgery & that you may need to continue to take them afterwards depending upon your surgery & how your buddy reacts to it. I’m not ignoring that some people struggle to absorb certain vitamins & need them. And as we age we lose outer ability to absorb some. I’m saying get a blood test & see what you really are lacking in & what supplements you actually need. Some vitamins actually can have negative side effects if taken in excess. Eating a balanced, nutritious diet. Drinking enough fluids will reduce the likelihood of the need for any supplements. Think of the money you’ll save. In the meantime, while you’re losing, just take your daily vitamins. That way you know you’re covered every day.

I also think the ‘boost’ people feel after these IV Vitamin is more from the additional Fluid they’re getting & not so much from the vitamins. Do you get a boost or a high from popping a Multivitamin? ?

And that’s my rant for the day.

Yes it can be challenging to get all your fluids in to begin. I struggled, the initial swelling didn’t help, but I made an effort to be close. I added extra water to my shakes & Soup. I drank during the night (still do). Set an alarm on your phone. Keep water or other liquid with you at all times. Sip, sip, sip. Dehydration can & does happen but it’s not very common.

Just thinking …. This is a local hydration Vitamin bar. Would anyone try this immediately Post op for wellness and recover just to get by the rough patch.< br />
It is medically supervised. Curious as too what everyone’s thoughts are who have been there and needed IV for dehydration after surgery. I will ask my surgeons thoughts when I go next.

My endocrinologist‘a office does those, and I brought home the flyer when I was there last week for BHRT pellets. I’m going to ask my surgeon about them on Monday. I was thinking the same as you…getting an IV in case I need support post-surgery. I’m hoping surgery will be 6/8-ish.

I wouldn’t. My aunt did that and had some issues and was told it’s BECAUSE she wasn’t getting enough fluids with it. Now that she’s getting enough she swears by it that she feels better but immediately post op so many people struggle to get enough fluids that I would wait until drinking enough fluids at least and even still I would ask a doctor if it was really better than the Multivitamin as to not waste my money. Another note. If anyone IS dehydrated post surgery. Don’t wait until it’s so bad you need to go to the ER. My doctor arranged from me to get an IV as an outpatient and it was no big deal. I was so worried about it and was so glad she arranged it for me. I felt so much better afterwards.

What you said as well. I would not anticipate difficulty getting my surgeon to order an IV for me post surgery to provide hydration support.
HOWEVER, in some cases, these walk in places might be someone’s best option for a number of reasons.

Kinda expensive though if you can just pay an out patient co pay for fluids.

The only thing I feel these hydration bars are good for is if you went out and got totally fall down drunk and have a meeting to attend the next day. I used it on a work convention I went to once. I got really hammered and had to present that afternoon. I had the IV fluids and I felt much better and was able to function very well. Outside of that, I don't see it.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
