I have a date for June 13th. Gastric bypass. Nervous and excited.

feel like I should be doing a lot more right now

Hi to you and the other June buddies!
I will find out my surgery date on Monday when I meet with my surgeon…I’m hoping for a date between June 8 and June 13.
My pre-procedure testing was extensive and has been finished for about 3 weeks. Cigna approved me this week. I’m having gastric bypass and hiatal hernia repair.
I’m 5’2”, and right now I’m 213lbs.
I started the liquid pre-op diet in earnest last Tuesday (the surgery coordinator said that of their patients like to start it early 🤷🏻‍♀️). I’m glad I started early because I have switched it up twice now and it has made it easy.
When I meet with the surgeon on Monday, I’ll find out the ‘protocol’ pre-surgery diet, and go from there.
Good luck to everyone AND May surgeries, please keep posting! Your stories are wonderfully encouraging and informative.

I've essentially been eating as I will after I'm back to normal foods. I'm averaging 750 calories a day, 26 carbs, 30 grams of fat, and 76 grams of Protein.

For example, yesterday I ate 717 calories. Of that, I had 85 grams of protein, 16 (net) carbs, and 32 grams of fat.

7am: Protein Shake
1130am: Protein Shake
2pm: Quest Protein Chips
7pm: 2 soft tacos: Low Carb Tortilla, 4oz ground turkey, 1 tablespoon of shredded cheese, 1 tablespoon of chopped onion, 1 tablespoon of salsa, and shredded lettuce

My gastric sleeve is scheduled for June 7th!

I'm ready for this chance to change and improve my health. I was originally scheduled for April, I tested positive for covid in the required screening. I felt so defeated finding out the day before surgery. The positive was that it affirmed my decision.

Congratulations on the surgery date! 🎉
I’m scheduled for June 8! I teach in a school and our Covid positives have been rising lately after months of not having any. I have no idea if masks are helpful, but I have started wearing one again as I see so many kids in a day.
I’m having hernia repair, bypass and my gallbladder removed.
Good luck to everyone.

Hello again all. I’m curious if any of you have been told about the risk of decreased serotonin as a result of the bypass. And that the risk of depression is high?

So gut bacteria creates 80-90% of the serotonin in our bodies. You can promote serotonin production through foods that contain tryptophan (Salmon, Spinach, eggs, Poultry). It's hypothesized that taking Probiotics may also help. Of course, exercise is also known to help the brain produce more of the serotonin it is responsible for. If you already struggle with depression and anxiety, it might be helpful to go ahead and talk to the healthcare providers that help you manage those conditions.

And my surgery just got postponed because my TSH level is in the 7s and they want it within normal limits before they will operate so as to make sure it's as successful as possible.

Hopefully your medical support system can help you get it stabilized quickly. I have issues with my Iron (my surgeon is aware of this) and find out on Monday if I can take my iron supplements during my preop diet..(the plan says to stop Multivitamins 2wks prior to surgery) if i have to stop them ..I will be drinking spinach Protein Shakes heated in an iron skillet lol.

It has hit me today, as I sit in my chair at work that I don't have my belly sticking out to where it would hit the desk. Oh and I can cross my legs more comfortably. It amazes me just how much I have loss in inches vs actual pounds, I have lost 24 lbs all together. But I believe in inches all over about 3 inches. I am noticing more energy and have pep to my step. My skin is a lot clearer. My watch band is shorter by 3 notches. the little things are what I am noticing. When I bend over I don't feel out of breath or I am going to fall over ( weeble wobble).
I am having a hard time with my sweet tooth, it is very hard to not want to get some ice cream or chocolate. Candy I can do without. I have no craving really for that, just chocolate and ice cream. I have gone as far as taking Popsicle and putting them in my mixer with almond milk and making like ice cream with that/ sometimes I have added un-flavored protein powder.
I feel better everyday. The energy is great to have with having younger kids and being able to have the energy to keep up. 😃

If anyone has any advice on how to make your stomach feel better after you eat something you shouldn't have or at too fast, I would GREATLY appreciate it!! It's painful on both sides of my abdomen (like to the point I'm doubled over and using a hot water bottle in addition to medicine) and I'm really nauseous (the thought or smell of food is 🤢).
