Ok, folks...help me out here...I just read on another post that you get a shot in the stomache before surgery and it is really painful. I haven't heard this anywhere before...Since I am having my band done at the same place you guys did what's the deal? Is there really a big shot pre op that really hurts....I'm now a bit freaked?

Nooooooooo......I never even saw the operating room. They put the meds in my IV while I was in the "holding" area ...where they do vitals, start the IV etc... the meds put me right to sleep and then they wheeled me into surgery. If there was a big shot or needle in the stomach, I sure didn't know about it. No need to worry....The whole experience with Dr Kim is top notch! You are in such great hands....from the nurses to the anesthisiologist (sp?) to John (Dr. Kim's PA) and Dr Kim....they are awesome!

You will get an injection of Heparin (blood thinning medication) in your abdomen prior to surgery. It is not a big shot. The needle is tiny but the medication does burn somewhat after you receive it.

OK....I'm so glad....I'm very needle shy....the fills won't bother me because they numb but this other shot freaked me out. As clear as Dr. Kim was I could not imagine him leaving that part out.

They DID give us the blood thinner injection just at the navel and that bruise lasted longer than any of the others. It stung a bit, but no big deal. Try not to stress about it.. the only needle you'll see besides that one is the IV they put in first. You'll be just fine! Want us to come hold your hand?

Yes please, DH doesn't do needles either, he faints so I'm in bad shape here. LOL

Were you awake for the blood thinner injection? I was out cold....and don't recall any needles other then the IV. Not having slept much the night prior....I was too tired to be stressed once I got to TLCEdge. At that point, I was like just hurry up so I can go home and sleep:)

I do not remember any shot in my stomach. I guess I must have been out cold as well. I am a great one to say put me out and then you can do what you need to do.

Baggio, don't worry you will be taken care of very well. They are all great people.

Pat: Yes one time I can eat something and have no problems and then the next time I try and after the first 2 bites I know it's not going to work. I still get upset with myself that I can't make myself get on a schedule to walk everyday. I keep saying I will walk on my lunch, but then something happens at work and I end up working through my lunch. I know when I did walk the scale was my friend, now that I am not walking again, the scale is not moving.

Stacey, YES... I was awake when they put the Heparin in. It stung a bit, but I was so nervous and tense that it probably hurt a bit more than it would have. It really was no big deal on the grand scope of things, however. I just remember being VERY glad when they finally said they were going to give me the "knockout" drug! *lol*

Dianne- We must be kindred spirits. My intentions are always good to exercise, but by the end of the work day, all I want to do is go home and crash in front of the TV. Logic tells me that when I lose a bit more weight, I'll feel more like exercising.. but the "catch-22" is that if I'd exercise, I'd lose more weight! So how do we motivate ourselves to do that? I've always *HATED* physical labor- the kind that makes you sweat. *lol*

Baggio.. don't be afraid to step on the scales while you're on the pre-op liquid diet! You'll be amazed at how many pounds will come off, and that will inspire you to hang in there! It's just AFTER surgery that you need to avoid the scale for a while, because you may not see much movement then, and it's easy to get depressed over it, especially when you're feeling sore and tired. Does it feel as if the 24th will *never* get here?? :thumbup: I remember that feeling! I was originally scheduled for Jan. 22, and then there was a problem with the heater going out at Prestonwood, and their water pipes froze, so they had to reschedule my surgery. I was sooooooooo disappointed that I nearly cried! Just remember we're all here for you!

I had the shot while I was awake. I was not prepared for it so I didn't have time to be nervous. Now that you know about it, just try and relax your muscles before getting it. It wasn't too big of a deal. Just a little sting and I am apparently a wimp when it comes to pain.

Good luck on the surgery... I had Dr. Gonzalez. He was very good.

OK guys I am already trying to talk myself out of walking at lunch today. It's not a pretty day and very windy. I need to find me someone here at work that wants to walk so they can motivate me to keep on schedule. This should not be this hard. But IT IS.

Ok....figured out what the deal is with the shot. Those who had the shot prior to being "asleep" did NOT have Dr. Kim for their surgeon. No worries Baggio....Dr Kim does not follow this method. We were all asleep prior to that shot, so no worries.

Yes...it is HARD to stay motivated to exercise. My friend is letting me borrow her T-Tapp tapes but I've only watched one and tried another. I need to get my butt in gear as well. The scale dropped after my last fill but has crept back up 3lbs now. It's so frustrating!!

I hope your right but I'm sure I will get through it. I could stand on my head at this point.

Yes, it definately feels as though next Thursday will never get here. I would die if they had to reschedule me at this point....I've gone through so many emotions I can't imagine having to repeat this process.

I'm just ready to get this part behind me.

Question, did any of you have egg drop soup or wonton soup during this stage or post op? I have stuck to optifast and jello but DH asked me about that last night and it made me wonder if it was OK?

Baggio... I was told that I could have stuff like tomato soup, broccoli/cheese soup, etc. and one real food meal per day- my choice, but that was because the Optifast disagreed completely with my digestive system. But every doctor is different, and you should check with Dr. Kim's office or Cindy at TLCEdge. It doesn't look like many on here used Dr. Veninga- most used Dr. Kim. You could also maybe get those "soup at hand" soups... but only IF your doctor allows it. I can't imagine wonton soup being a no-no, but you'd have to check. Does anyone know from experience? Just follow his instructions, and remember this is not *forever*.
