Surgery day is finally here

Recommended Posts

Less than 12 hrs now and I will be having my revision to distal bypass. I can't believe it's finally here, but I am so ready!

sorry i didn't respond to a question you asked me on another post about the sidebar. Someone else answered, and now it appears you figured it out too.

Hope you are doing well :)

So things didn't go exactly as planned with me yesterday. When do they ever? Surgery was only supposed to be an hour ended up being over 3 hours. Doctor found a lot of adhesions that he had to clear up before he could see exactly what was going on. My previous surgeon from 20 years ago did an older version of the surgery which included a loop that my current surgeon wasn't expecting and made my new surgery more dangerous so he had to fix a hernia that was there and basically had to abort the surgery were planning on doing. Which means I'm going to need a different surgery once I heal up from this one. I am doing okay now of course I'm in some pain I had abdominal surgery yesterday regardless of the changes to our plans.

Glad you are doing okay. I assume some pain is to be expected it sounds like they did quite a bit in there.

Oh, dear! Sorry to hear it, but glad you're okay. My surgeon hit a similar snag (adhesions from long-ago gall bladder surgery), but was able to work around it eventually. Hope you heal quickly from this temporary setback.

It's been a rough couple of days since being released from the hospital. Woke yesterday in a lot more pain and running a fever of 102.5 and chills. Called the surgeon and he said just to take some Tylenol. My partners were not ok with that so they took me to the er just to make sure there was no infection. No infection, ileus causing bowel obstruction/constipation that I'm just supposed to take stool softeners (which I already was) and a fleet enema. Like the constipation/slow motility is the reason we were going for the distal revision so since the revision wasn't done, this isn't going to change. I also expected the pain and they treated me like I was there looking for drugs because I'm a chronic pain patient. I'm not sure why I expected anything different. Still running the high fever if I fall behind on the Tylenol.

My surgeon does keep callin, and gave me his cell phone number if there were any other issues. I reminded him this morning that slow motility/constipation was one of the issues I was complaining about prior to surgery. He said we would be looking at a "more sophisticated " surgery than the distal RNY but we would talk more at my follow-up

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
