Idiot question - did I choke or is this PB? (sorry)

I was taking my pills last night (with water yea!) . . . and took to big a swallow . . . which I realized as soon as it was going down . . . and instantly I had backwash . . .and more than I had just swallowed. It wasn't until later that I thought this could be what PB is . . . I had no control . . .it was just there instantly. Just wondering . . . because if this is PB . . . omg I will NEVER break a chewing rule (ONCE I GET TO START CHEWING!)

Doesn't sound like a PB to me. Water (especially being far enough out from your surgery that swelling should be a little down, and assuming yu haven't yet had a fill) should - for the most part - go right through. Especially just one swallow. I know that people have "chugged" more than their puches could hold, and for whatever reason the water wasn't going through, so it sort of backed up on them... but one swallow isn't going to do that.

Maybe you just swallowed the wrong way? I dunno. You're the only one who knows what happened/how it felt. :)

Generally speaking, PBs don't just happen. (It happens, but isn't the norm). There's discomfort and time involved.

Chris, I am doing the same thing, chugging water because I forget about the new Band. Maybe a pill plugged you up for a minute and the water came back up. I usually catch myself before I drink too much, though! I'm like you the fear of PB (acronym still makes me think of Peanut Butter:nervous) keeps me from eating the wrong way.....

Whats is PB?

Ron, I had the same question - it is progressive burping. I guess if I ever have it happen, I'll know what that actually means. I would like to know what Sliming is, though...

PB is productive burp. something comes back up.

Sliming is when something is kind of stuck and your body creates tons of saliva to ease it through and it backs up like slime. a lot of people just spit it out.

From what I understand, Pb is productive burp, meaning you produce more than noise (if you know what I mean). It is a nice way of saying humiliating yourself by uncontrollable yakking. if you search for it on the main board and read some of the horror stories it will make you understand what all the fear is of. I have visions of pb-ing while I'm in the middle of teaching my highschoolers. Lord help me.

As far as sliming, it's when you're "stuck", meaning nothing can go down, and you produce a bunch of saliva to try to aid the process...but it doesn't sound very helpful...and all that happens is sliming.

That's what my reading of it is. I plan to have a serious talk with my doc before he fills me the first time so I can have a better idea.

The oldies can probably answer from experience.

It feels like to me that I get blocked at the band and anything I eat/drink right away just piles up and will back up into my mouth over the tiniest hiccup or cough. You will know if you PB. It's like a babies spit up only it usually hurts because it means you're stuck and the food won't go down. PB is a sweet term for what really happens. It's not comfortable at all!! It has taken me a few months to recognize when I may PB and stop (and sometimes spit up) before getting really stuck and painful. Good luck to ya!!! Beyond chewing the best advice is tiny little bites. Small small small!!!! I have a bad habit of big bites and it doesn't matter how much I chew if the whole bite goes down, it's stuck =(
