Hi there,

My surgery is tomorrow and I am just winding up the mostly liquid diet from the past two weeks. Could also snack on veggies, so it wasn't too bad. I was able to use Premier Protein shakes and there were lots of tasty flavors, so I could mix it up and not get bored.

Hey Tracy, I'm in Michigan and my surgery is tomorrow too. When is your surgery and what city are you in? I'm in Livonia

My surgery is in Ann Arbor. Best wishes to you. I'm feeling a bit nervous, excited...so many emotions. Mostly I'm just ready to start the rest of my life.🙂

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum. I'm from the UK but had my Gastric Sleeve surgery on 1st April at Medicine Hospital in Istanbul, Turkey.

Feeling pretty good so far, just twinges in my stomach if I have to get off a chair or turn in bed. Incisions look to be healing OK. Have an online meeting with our Dietician later this morning.

Good luck to everyone having surgery today.

My house too! Lol

Yes, me too, my surgery is on 11th but I’m going crazy trying to get my domestic jobs all done so that I can relax afterwards!

Good luck to you on the 11th! You will do great! And, no matter what, you’ve earned the right to relax! ❤️

Washing my CPAP so it's ready to go with too, washing my body tonight ,lol, with the special soap for the third night in a row. Wedding rings removed and all other jewelry. Grabbing charging cord and phone and tablet to take too. Just waiting for call to verify surgery time. Right now, scheduled for 9:45am. How are the rest of you doing?

You won't need your c-pap, they'll regulate your levels for you (or a least they should). Praying for a healthy and new you.... Happy New-Birthday

☘️Good luck to everyone who is scheduled for this week!☘️

On another note, I have a question. Originally, I was hoping for an April 11 surgery date. My pre-procedure testing/evaluations have been complete for a week. The cardiologist cleared me for surgery. My apologies for repeating all this stuff again.

This morning, i get an email from CIGNA that they have assigned me a 'personal nurse advocate.' I have a phone call scheduled with 'my' personal nurse advocate later today. The CIGNA person was very nice, and said that the PNA will be able to answer my questions regarding 'where' my paperwork is in the approval process.

My question: is it an encouraging sign that this PNA has been assigned to me OR does it really not mean anything at all?

Thank you in advance.

No, it is not unusual, it's a good thing. Depending on your type of surgery, you may have a drain ball, and may need assistance in maintaining it. I had a PNA and I appreciated everything she did for me. Feel free to ask, that's why we're here.

I think it’s good news. I have Aetna insurance and they assigned me a nurse after I was approved so I’m thinking they probably wouldn’t give you that resource if they were going to decline you.

Thank you so much. I think I am having a RNY due to a large hiatal hernia that will be repaired at the same time.

Thank you. That made sense to me too.
You are coming into the home stretch, huh?

Yes I am! On day 2 of liquids prepping for a 4/19 sleeve surgery. It’s been a little rough dealing with the hunger pains. I’m a little encouraged to read most people have an easier time after that!

Hi, Good luck on the 15th. Has your surgeon mentioned anything to you regarding hernia repair recovery time?

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
