February 2022 Surgery Buddies

Recommended Posts

My surgery is tomorrow morning and my mother and sister literally waited until today to tell me they think I am making the wrong choice and they wish I wouldn’t go through with it.
I'm sorry they've decided to not be supportive. Do your very best to show them how wrong they are.

I am so sorry that they are doing this but to wait till now to express their feelings almost seems calculated and manipulative. I hope that you choose you and do choose to continue this journey to good health. You deserve this and you have plenty of people here to root you on and support you throughout the process. Good luck tomorrow.

This is unfair and I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this. But I agree with a previous reply. You deserve this. You’re making a choice for YOU. Block Negative vibes out. Focus on your big day tomorrow. You got this.

Your mother and sister should take their envy and shove it where the sun don't shine.

Good luck. You deserve this. :769_heart:

Mine is tomorrow at 3pm as well. I’m sure they mean well but some of our supporters just have no idea what we’re going through. Respectfully acknowledge their feedback but tell them confidently you know what’s best for you and their support would mean a lot to you but if they don’t support it could they keep their comments to themselves. I wish you the best God has in store for you and a very uneventful surgery & recovery!

Annabelle, I had my daughter do the same to me as I was walking out the door to the hospital so I kinda understand how you feel! My minister friend to me to rest in the peace that God gave me and don’t look back. Continue to do what is best for me! So I say the same to rest! Stay focused on the reason you made this decision in the first place. Allow God’s Peace to comfort you! I pray you have a very successful surgery and recovery as well! 🙏🏽❤️ My surgery was Friday and I’m home and doing well at this time! 💐

My husband did this to me and made me feel like crap because of it. I still felt it was best for me and went through with it and I basically said this is what I want and I hope you can become supportive of my decisions. He has come around and is now very helpful and supportive. Express how much it means to you and that you hope they will become supportive good luck with your surgery!

I'm so sorry people are behaving like this to you guys. It's so far beyond the pale my English is failing me (and my native language gibberish won't mean much).

Obesity is a disease. A chronic one. There's almost zero chance of getting to BMI 25 and keeping it once you're above BMI30-35, let alone 45 or 50+.

The absolute best way we have to manage obesity is surgery. It's life-saving surgery with a very low risk profile compared to other types of surgery.

Stand your ground mentally and consider yourselves worth it. I weep for the ones not here who were talked out of doing this for themselves. Be good examples! Hugs.

For my surgeon's program I'm on full liquids week 1 and 2, pureed 3 and 4, and soft solids 5 and 6. So no regular diet until week 7.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
