Feeling full vs feeling satisfied

Recommended Posts

Feeling like I never had surgery? My surgery was 11-09-2021. I am 3 weeks 5 days post op today. I'm currently on pureed foods. The first week was difficult. Ever since I started on pureed foods, I feel like I never had surgery. I've been measuring everything out, and sticking to the guidelines for the most part. People will say they can barely eat...that they're not hungry. Well I can eat 4oz of cottage cheese and 3oz of anything else with no problems not all at one time. I don't drink with or after my meals. I honestly feel hunger...in my belly. I've also experienced the head hunger (esp the week after surgery). It's a little frustrating because I don't want to screw this up. I know the surgery is just a tool, but how do I fix my brain? I went from 275 to 250 .My surgery weight was like 275.So I'm happy with the results, but I'm so focused on the future. I don't want to mess up. What advice do you guys have for me?

We will not feel the restriction until our tummies are healed and we are eating real food. There is a little search box at the top of the page, write ? Always feeling hungry .... or never feel full. There are tons of people who trod these forums before us and have all the knowledge. Apparently you will know it when you get it. You are working the program so well, a few more weeks will see you fine

^^ agree with summerseeker. Most of us don't feel restriction until we move on to solid food. In the meantime, keep measuring out however much you're supposed to eat and just eat that...

Continue to follow the volume guidelines provided by your clinic. If you keep eating beyond the guidelines you won't gain the benefit of the surgery to learn a new way of eating and cooking. If told to eat more than 1 cup per meal, stop then even if you are neither full or satisfied.

I felt hungry all the time and everyone kept telling me it was head hunger. Nope, the psychologist at the surgery center said about 20% of her patients don't lose their hunger. My doctor put me back on metformin to help with that, and it's definitely better, but I'm still hungry a lot. Hot tea helps me.

I am also hungry - properly hungry - since my op 16 days ago so I guess I might be one of the unlucky 20%. Sticking to my volume restriction of 1/3 cup pureed whatever per meal and also taking 2 Protein Shakes. And a tiny cube of cheese every day. Cannot wait for soft foods, also keen to see whether solids will allow me to feel my restriction and to finally feel FULL!

I’m a month a 2 days post op. I was just starting the purée foods and having cottage cheese and scrambled eggs. A few days ago I started getting nauseated all the time. It was continuing when I’d be doing things around the house. I called my doctor who got back to me with an hour. He told me to go back to the liquid diet. He also wanted me to continue to wear my binder. The reason I need to wear a binder is that I’ve been recovering from a pain hematoma that developed between the outer stomach and the muscle. The doctor believes that even if most of my pain has subsided, the muscles are still not completely healed. He mentioned that when I’m up and around doing things my system can’t handle it. Therefore it’s causing the nausea. My doctor said if I go back on the liquid diet and continue with bed rest for a bit longer my stomach will heal and I can start back to the phase of eating.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
