My surgery experience has sucked so bad. No IV pain meds. Exhausted, and now home day 4. Surgery was Monday. I tried calling my doc about my Vitamins and he pretty much blew me off. I had such a negative experience that I will not be returning to him If I have any issues, ill go to the other hospital that does these surgeries. My DOCS A pos. I'm also having trouble why are we drinking broth. Is it because it helps towards out Water intake on top of our shakes. Bc it holds no Protein.

Anyone tell me if these vitamins are correct 20211125_085604.jpg 20211125_085551.jpg 20211125_085611.jpg

broth is a low calorie liquid that helps you meet your Fluid requirements. It's Protein value is irrelevant. It's just one more thing to help you achieve your desired outcome.

As for supplements, you need a high dose Multi-Vitamin such as Bariatric Pal's One-a-Day (or double "normal" one-a-day vitamins), sub-lingual Vitamin B12, D3, and 1500 mg Calcium Citrate. If your dietitian gave you other directions, follow them.

For pain, you can take Tylenol.

Exhaustion on Day 4 is totally normal. Relax, take it one day at a time. You've got this!

I was also told if I got the Celebrate I didn’t need anything else. Unfortunately the Celebrate Vitamin wasn’t for me. It made me instantly nauseated and sick to my stomach and the next day my urine was bright yellow. I have had good luck with Bariatric Fusion multi chewable vitamins (2 per day) and Bariatric Calcium chew (1 per day). Hope you figure out what works best for you soon!

I'm sorry you've had such a stressful, negative experience. I think all the docs/staff are so burned out that those of us at this point in the year are getting the dregs. It's scary. I was told only bariatric vitamins and supplements, and nothing chewable, but do whatever your nutritionist/team said to do. There's so many versions of what is/isn't OK to do, it's tricky to sort it all out. Hang in there!! Congrats and kudos to you for getting through the surgery and back home. That's a fantastic start!

So sorry your surgeon was an ass. I hope you have more support from the other hospital’s team.

Some Vitamins can cause nausea (vitamin C, E & Iron are the main culprits) & it can be challenging to find one with right quantities to suit you. Make sure you take it after you eat & if you have to take more than one, spread out taking them across the day.

Bone broths do contain Protein. Not as much as the Protein Shakes of course but for those who can’t tolerate the shakes they are a welcome alternative plus they are a change from shakes three times a day. The broth contains lots of essential nutrients as well.

Yeah my surgeon was a d**k. No IV PAIN MEDS AT ALL. Even when I kept puking post op. They wouldn't give me iv pheblnergan for naseau, they almost gave me a med I was allergic too, its a good thing I was curious and the nurses excuse was sorry it was at the bottom of the list. Like Wtf ?. Now I'm just trying to get my fluids in 😭😭🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ if there is any complications there is 1 other hospital near me where the surgery is done and I'll go there instead. F*** that. And to be fair I don't like this hospital either bc they've also tried to give me meds that I'm allergic to and sent me home with a gallbladder issue that was taken out 2 days after that visit 🙃 so that says alot

After my surgery my doctor and nutritionist have me on children's chewable vitamins, B12 sublingual, and Calcium chewable. The calcium chewable taste like chalk and it makes me gag. My doctor told me to slop taking them. Some of medications were lowered or discontinued since my surgery. Due to my setback not related to my surgery the hematoma pain I have when walking around too much causes nausea. It’s been difficult for my stomach to handle Protein Drinks.
Since you’re only 4 days post op it’s normal to have nausea. Continue taking the required supplements. If you have a pill cutter I suggest to split your supplements into smaller pieces. This will be easier on your stomach. Also instead of taking them with Water try taking them with Gatorade2 or Pedialyte. You need to give yourself time to heal. Make sure you rest.

I do the Gatorade2 and the Pedialyte cause I need to make sure I have enough electrolytes. Plus they help you stay hydrated.

the bright yellow urine is due to Vitamin B. It's a Water soluble vitamin, so your body uses what it needs and excretes the rest. Bright yellow urine is very common for people taking vitamin B supplements and is not a concern.

This is so scary, but so common! I'm sorry you're dealing with this. When I compare all the different "notes" and records, as well as what they choose to omit, my charts and records are full of errors, too. Funny when they write notes, they never ask for patient input. The best docs dictate all their notes while the patient is still in their office so there's no errors/confusion. Lots of "spin" by staff to appear to give standard of care.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
