Runny Nose When Full

Recommended Posts

My bariatrics team says that a runny nose is common after eating a large meal for us gastric sleeve people. It's something about a nerve. Does anyone know any more about this.?

Yes, it's a fairly common symptom.

I sneeze. Twice.

Two is the number of the sneezes.

Three sneezes do not happen.

One sneeze is right out, lest there be a second sneeze in quick succession.

Of the sneezes there shall be two.

Good Luck,

Tek

It seems to have to do with the Vagus nerve being messed with (cut, nicked, manhandled, or whatever).

Totally normal. It's the vagus nerve that does it. I get post-nasal drip which is really annoying.

Yup, I have it too when I’m full. Sometimes hiccups. I heed the warnings too because the foamies are AWFUL.

Two sneezes? Too easy.

I sneeze half a dozen times. Maybe a dozen if I overeat.

LOL.

I was just saying to my husband the other day that I get a runny nose when I’m full. Glad to hear it’s normal :)

Yes, I get a runny nose and hiccups. I actually like having these fullness cues. Do they last forever or only in the first year?

For me, 18 years post op, I still do it.

I don't often eat to fullness so it doesn't often happen. I still control portion size more than I rely on sneezing to know when to stop. Sneezing means: Warning: don't take another bite.

Some days it's after 3 bites of food. Most days I don't encounter "full."

I don't want to push the envelope often for fear, real or imagined, that the envelope will grow.

Good luck,

Tek

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
