Soft food/purée phase

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow I start my soft food/purée stage. My doctor gave the option of puréed foods or chewing food to a puréed state. What are some options that have worked for you all ? I’m asking because I am just a little uncertain. I know everyone’s body is different in what it can take. But just want a little insight.

Get a blender. Chewing multiple times just leaves you with a tasteless mush in your mouth. Blah!

You still really shouldn’t have to chew at puree stage. Add stock, broth or gravy, etc. to help blend meats down to a nice sloppiness. I also tried using cottage cheese & ricotta but it was still too thick & didn’t taste pleasant. mayo was way to sweet. I was allowed scrambled eggs - made them with milk & made them pretty runny. I did buy a couple of jars of baby food as a back up.

You can chew more on soft foods. I ate a lot of mince based meals (rissoles/meat balls, savoury mince) with lots of gravy & slow cooked meats in casseroles & stews. The near should just break down ver easily with a little mash with a fork.

I'll mention a couple things I tried, because everyone might not think of these.

I got same prepared chicken curry from costco, then put a couple ounces in the blender cup, added an ounce or so of chicken broth, and ground it until it was smooth. I did the same with prepared chicken marsala.

A bullet-style blender is good for this kind of work.

Has anyone tried eating hummus or guacamole?

I sometimes put a little guacamole on a sandwich. Just a tablespoon or so, though. It's really high in fat.

I regularly had hummus during puree/soft phases and did fine with it. Guac is a pass because I'm allergic. Refried Beans thinned with salsa or enchilada sauce, Madras lentils & Tasty Bite dal (both from Costco), cottage cheese, and thick Soups were staples for me. I opted the chew instead of blend, mostly out of convenience, but it did get old. I also added unflavored Protein Powder to just about anything I could.

Awesome !! I am headed to the store now ! I also found a chicken salad recipe that seems like it would be a good option. I just can’t get with purée everything ! Lol So thanks for this insight !!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
