Hey There! Any December 2021 Surgery Friends?

Recommended Posts

I'm scheduled for December 29! I'm in the phase where I am cautiously excited and still sort of feeling like I can't believe it's happening. I'm getting nervous and also chomping at the bit. I'm all over the place! LOL. My doctor has a protocol of 2-week strict diet before surgery. I start that on the 14th. On the 21st it goes to full liquid diet. A little nervous about that, but I know I can do it.

I started doing Protein Shakes for Breakfast and the evening for the past week and lost about 6 lbs (probably mostly Water weight). I’ve also been trying out the Protein water/ powders. I don’t start my preop diet until 1 week prior to surgery.

I just learned about Protein Water this week! What kinds have you tried? I start my strict pre-op diet next week, and I'm thinking I'll give some protein water a try.

Hello from the other siiiiiiide! I had RNY on Dec 1 and was home the next afternoon. I've had more pain than I anticipated, but have had zero problems meeting my liquid and Protein minimums. Mainly I've been really tired and just want to rest at every opportunity. It's been pleasant not to feel hungry, especially after having completed the grueling pre-op diet.

Lucky you! I had to start my pre-op diet Dec. 4th, last Saturday. Where are you getting it done? Yes, good luck to you! There's a really great and informative group on Facebook for December surgeries, you should join.

Surgery is tomorrow morning. So nervous out if nowhere. This is a huge change for the body. I’m praying all goes well and that like LASIK it will be one of the best decisions of my life.

Sitting in my hospital bed post op VSG today. Lots of tummy pain initially. Was given dilaudid and it helped immensely. After walking to the bathroom I was authorized for my X-ray confirmation. It was so cool to see my little baby stomach on the screen after taking a shot of contrast. It’s been 12 hours, pain is being managed with acetaminophen well enough. Started my liquids which I really have to make an effort to take down. 1 sip at a time is my motto. Hoping all goes well for everyone here.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
