Cymbalta Not Working

Recommended Posts

I had gastric bypass surgery on August 24. It’s just over a month later and I’m feeling like my Cymbalta is not working. I’ve noticed I have been feeling depressed which I initially just attributed to the surgery but now I’m wondering if my body is even absorbing the medicine like it should. I did not have any problems with the dosage prior to surgery.

If it's delayed- or extended-release, you won't absorb enough of it before it passes through. I don't know the formulary for Cymbalta but I had to change from Wellbutrin XL to Wellbutrin SR (which spiked my anxiety) to Wellbutrin IR. Talk to your psychiatrist.

I don't deal with depression issues (fortunately...), but i know a lot of people who do have to have their meds changed or dosages adjusted after WLS - so check with your doctor.

As others have said, if it's an extended or delayed release, its possible you aren't absorbing it. Definitely contact your provider and discuss. There are tons of great meds put there that can work for WLS patients if you determine you need a med change. Even if it is just "post-op blues" it's so, so important to stay on top of your mental health throughout this process. I know it can feel overwhelming, but don't give up! You got this!

Remember your system is being flooded with hormones that were stored in fatty tissue. I had same issue immediately after surgery. Increased dosage for a period, than was able to taper back. As always, check with Dr who understands both depression and BariatricPal surgery.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
