Any October 2021 Surgeries?

Recommended Posts

14 days post surgery - got my sleeve at 8:30 am on Oct 20th. I've followed the program perfectly - easy, since I have little interest in food - and been able to get in 60 grams of Proteins every day and 64 ounces of Water every day, although it was not easy the first week. First week was rough - felt bad physically, pain from surgery and from drinking/eating, fearing loss of food enjoyment as a thing in my life. Days 7-10 I started to gradually feel better. By this last Monday, Day 12, I guess, I felt totally normal, back to myself. Although I don't crave it, I find drinking a tasty broth or eating a sugar free Jello or pudding pleasant. So much better. I averaged 300-350 calories the first week and 500-600 calories the second week. Down 12 lbs since surgery date, total of 22 lbs since pre op diet, and 40 pounds since I started the bariatric program in July. Sometimes it feels a little unreal, and I'm startled I undertook something that is going to change my life so profoundly, but I'm looking forward to a future with improved mobility and health (I hope) or at least proud I have done all I can to move towards that goal.

I’m on day 5 and I just want some real food! Like a salad or a piece of cheese.

Hi there,

Aww I’m so sorry you are going through this.

I know after my surgery my blood pressure went up a bit for 2 days and I was told it was the effects of the Anaesthetic but my pulse was too low.
we all react differently to it.
I really hope you get sorted and the heart rate decreases.
you will get better with each day it is a day closer to the new you!
stay strong lady!
Gas pains are normal and suck but they will get better. I’m 3 weeks post op tomorrow and things have improved for me so much.
Mira hard to start but worth it in the end.
hang in there.

I meant stay strong lovely guy!

I'm 4 weeks after my bypass.

Mine stalled last week but back on track I'm losing around a kilo/2.2 pounds a week.

I was so obsessed with it I put in my head as long as I lose or stay the same I'm doing fine. Body is learning.

Good luck

Xxx

I'm 3 weeks out from gastric bypass surgery. Weight loss has stalled.

I’m nearly 4 weeks on Monday out since the gastric sleeve, I spoke with my Bariatric nurse yesterday she said it’s very common around this time to stall and she explained when you were on a normal diet that you get stalls and don’t lose every week.
but it will start coming off again.
I haven’t lost anything in over a week but I also have my period and I normally put Water weight on while I’m on it and so next week I’m probably going to start losing,

fingers crossed, so don’t worry about the stalls, they happen and it’s just your body trying to catch up with the little amounts of food and getting over the stress of the op.

I’m two weeks from sleeve to Bypass and I have only lost 4lbs since surgery. My doc said I need to eat more calories and hit my Protein. I just don’t have a desire for Soups, hate milk so Protein Drinks I just can’t stomach anymore and everything so sweet. I been only getting 200 cals or less. I have one more week before I get to chew on food lol.

Has anyone else had an unquenchable thirst? No matter what I drink or how much I am always dry mouth. Only thing that helps is popsicles.

Hi all, I had my sleeve surgery on 10/04… I haven’t really lost much weight like about 6lbs. Has anyone been going through the same thing?… not losing that much weight… just getting a little bit worried and depressed

Same. 4lbs since surgery. Doc said I need to eat more calories and hit my Protein. I’m 2weeks out.

Hi, I had my sleeve on October 27th. Any help with the cravings is greatly welcomed. I'm only 8 days post op and am dreaming of what I'll have for my puree stage. Not at all hungry, just miss actually eating?! Oh and the best part is I've already lost 13lb 🙂

Had my surgery also on the 27th. Lost 16 pounds the first week. Doing so good doc already moved me onto the puree stage after 1 week. I'm slowly figuring out what I like pureed. BUT the cravings good lord. I just want a slice of pizza, what if I pureed it? LOL. But also, NOT HUNGRY AT ALL!!

Not going to lie. Craving were so bad I literally would chew something I couldn't have and spit it out. I just wanted the taste so bad!

Homemade sauces(apple and pear) with Stevia added. YUMMY!! Made a version of chicken salad with light mayo, lactaid cottage cheese, pepper, salt, garlic powder and celery powder. YUMM!! Made Pureed cauliflower that tastes better than mashed potatoes and pureed Brussel sprouts to get the Fiber. Just experiment but stay away from spicy foods and very acidic foods.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
