Completely over the darn scale

Recommended Posts

I am about six weeks post op. I've lost a total of 30 pounds since I began the process in March of this year. I have lost 19 pounds in six weeks and was told by my surgeon that I have not lost enough weight. I am 48 years old, post hysterectomy, and struggle to do my very best, but the scales don't move. I have resorted to putting up the scales, because at this point I have lost any motivation. I will keep doing my best to eat right but I am over it. My doctor told me that when I come back, 09/24, I should be down at least 20 more pounds. How in the world? I drink Protein Shakes, I put Protein Powder in my drinks, I drink water.....I am even exercising. What more can I do? I am at my wits end.

First your Dr. is an ass and doesnt know what he is talking about. Dont worry about him.

I kept a journal and I was a slow loser too. I also lost 19lbs the first 6 weeks after surgery. Slow losers cant compare themselves to others but you can make goal sticking to the plan. I also was 48 when I had my initial surgery.

Hang in there !! You can do this.

you're fine - and I ditto what Tracyringo said - your surgeon is an ass. I lost 16 lbs the first month and 12 lbs the second month, so we're kind of in the same ballpark - and I started out at well over 300 lbs. I'm also older - I had surgery at age 55. Age can definitely make a difference.

It sounds like you're doing all you can do. Just keep up with it. I was a slow loser from the get-go, and I lost over 200 lbs. Took awhile, but I was very committed to my program and I did it. And if you continue to follow your program regardless of what that insensitive jerk says, you'll be successful, too.

I am 13 months post-op and losing about 1-1.5 pounds/month at this point. We are all different and lose at different rates.

Ugh! Surgeons have no bedside manner. They should just stick to cutting people up physically and not emotionally. I'm sorry you're dealing with this. Just keep following your plan and don't compare your results to others. Take walks if you're able, more for your mental health than for your physical health. I like to walk and stop to take pictures of flowers in my neighborhood.

I am right there with ya! :( I am 7 ¹\² weeks out and I'm only down 16 lbs. I'm just blah at this point and don't know what to do either. I am 37 years old and should be able to do wayyyy more than I do. I really thought that with this surgery it would change that but my legs knees hips feet back just everything still hurt after just a lil bit if housework. I mean yeah I can do more technically than what I was prior to surgery but I guess I had my hopes up high bc I'm not where I wanted to be at this point. I guess we just got to keep on keeping on...and not give up and just try our best to be as healthy as we can be. :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
