I'm looking forward to meeting up with old friends and not feeling embarrassed. I was at the point where I wanted to skip get togethers with my high school and college friends, not because they are critical at all, but I was just ashamed the way I looked. Now hopefully I will be able to look forward to those events instead of wanting to avoid them.

Yes I feel this way too. Many times I have the jitters at the last minute and dont go. Being told to isolate indoors during these covid times hasnt helped either. I feel as if I have to kick my self out of the door now

I am looking forward to:

-going on rides with my kids when they are a little bigger.

-going shopping for clothes in smaller sizes.

- not fearing whether I will fit in airplane seat (or sitting in any seat comfortably)

-getting off BP meds.

-having more stamina & energy while walking.

-getting more comfortable sleep (less hip & back pain).

-getting to Onederland.

-moving down to "overweight" category on BMI scale.

-fitting my calves in boots! (even if I don't ever decide to wear them, just knowing I don't need to buy for wide calves would be nice)

-my doctor's not mentioning my weight.

-not being uncomfortable sitting in front of people/moving away from the walls & back of rooms (hiding).

*I am sure I forgot some so there may be a part 2 soon!😁

I look forward to being able to get on a plane without the need to take Xanax to control my anxiety over how uncomfortable I am going to be for the duration of the flight (I do a lot of international flying, so we are talking 8+ hours sometimes). And no bruised hips from the arm rests!

I want to be able to:

  • Scuba dive with my son and husband again
  • Wear my wedding ring
  • Fit in my husband's Bonanza and not die at the idea of giving him my weight for flight planning or have an anxiety attack over whether we'll be able to get it off the ground
  • Fly commercial without seatbelt and/or armrest issues
  • Wear a swimsuit that is NOT a dress
  • Ride roller coasters with my kids
  • Sit anywhere without having to worry about the size/shape/strength of the seat
  • Stand up with ease, regardless of how low the chair is
  • Reduce knee pain enough that I can avoid an impending knee replacement
  • Not be disappointed because a clothing item I want doesn't come large enough for me
  • Ride a horse, kayak, jet ski, river raft, zip line or whatever the heck else I feel like doing without worrying about weight limits

I’m most looking forward to:

being able to keep up with my 2.5 yr old grandson.

not have to keep buying bigger clothes

having my energy back again

being able to buy off-the-rack clothes in single digit sizes

not being ashamed of how I look

having more confidence

being able to get around better cause the extra weight won’t tax my MS body as much

@Candace76 Said not having her doctors mention her weight and that made me think of something... every time I have a medical issue, whatever specialist always says it's related to my weight, and I just need to lose weight, even if thin people often have the same problem. I'd like to say, "well, how would you treat this in a thin person?" But I always just start crying and can't say anything.

10 years ago when I smoked and was fat, the doctors always said, deal with the smoking first, your weight is secondary to that. Now all the problems that they blamed on my smoking are now because of my weight .... I gave up smoking and in the last 10 years have gained 80 pounds. I gradually stopped going to see them unless its an emergency. Why should we be treated so differently. Is it a power trip for them because they know we have zero confidence from years of abuse ? lizonaplane and candace76 I know your hurt

Having not bad any medical issues as a result of my weight except joint pain I can’t say I know exactly how you feel but I having dealt with most other prejudices due to my weight I can certainly empathize. I don’t think the doctors do it on purpose. I think it’s because they work on the “rule out” theory. If someone has this, rule out x cause and it must be y. Well they can’t “rule out” weight as a cause unless you can lose the weight and still have the issue.

I think an even better question would be if I came to you tomorrow 50 or 100 or whatever pounds lighter with the same issue what would you be considering. I’m sorry that you are so upset that you haven’t been able to ask that question. Perhaps losing the weight will take care of the issues but if not, at least the doctor will look for less common causes after the weight is no longer an issue.

What’s sad is they they all are aware of prejudices that obese patients face and that it is a huge issue in the medical field yet they have done very little to change it other than some people just try to ignore our weight alltogether and all the issues it does cause neglecting things rather than talk about it which may seem polite but isn’t the answer either. I am glad we won’t have to deal with this much longer but am still hopeful that someone comes up with a solution for those who haven’t lost the weight.

This is kind of silly, but I always looked forward to things like going to concerts and being able to buy concert t-shirts. Back when I was a teenager in the 80s I wore a size large, but that wasn't as common to find, when I got older I wore between 2x to 5x at my highest weight, and they never had that size.
My husband and I went to see my favorite band the other day, and I went to buy a t-shirt. I have been wearing XL, but they only had large left, and I decided to buy it anyway since I plan to lose more anyway. Well IT FITS!!! So I can fit into the size I wore in high school now AND I got my first concert t-shirt!
It's these kind of things I always looked forward to!

So funny you mention that. I’m going to see my favorite band in a couple weeks for three days and I’ve never been able to wear the official shirts, sometimes lot shirts were big enough but usually not. I’ve already bought a few online and am SOOO ready for these shows. Even fat I’d dance like an idiot (like seriously, think Elaine from Seinfeld meets Frankenstein’s monster)…, now I’ll just be the tall guy dancing like an idiot, not “awww look at that fat guy try.”

Honestly, after having a horrible experience at work, I am looking forward the most to not having to worry whether I’ll fit in the largest size of work clothing available. Not being able to fit in something, whether it’s clothes, amusement park rides or an airplane seat is one of the most embarrassing feelings in the world in my opinion. 😞

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
