Food you used to love now u hate

Recommended Posts

I'll be honest with you. I loved eating at KFC before my surgery, like I would be there 5 times per week (ridiculous, I know, but I was totally addicted to it) and if I ever went to fast food restaurant I would always eat fries (dunno, loved them since I was a kid). And now... dudes, this food is not edible. I tried to eat at KFC twice, or trice, I don't even know and my stomach hates it. It kinda hurts and I feel unwell, also kinda ready to throw up. It makes me wonder if this food was always so bad and my stomach was just so used to junk food that it didn't make any complaints. It makes me both sad and happy.

I also used to drink lots of coke, like 3 cans per day. And of course I wanted to try it. Although my stomach is not upset after drinking coke I still can't say that it taste good. It's rather weird and i tried it when it was so hot and it used to taste best at times like this but not anymore.

So, what kind of food you liked to eat and now u don't?

I can't eat things like fried chicken at all - the grease makes me nauseated. Other than that - bananas. I used to love them. Now I find them cloying.

Eating out in general. I like it occasionally, but this week there were lots of celebrations in my family (birthdays, wedding anniversaries, Father's Day) and we ended up eating out three days in a row. Even though I got healthier options, I felt so...gross. I don't even know. I was lethargic, unmotivated to do stuff, and it was hard to get down other foods at mealtimes. We finished the celebrations and the first day eating at home was so refreshing, and honestly way more delicious and satisfying than any of the restaurant meals. Never thought I'd say that.

I haven't had surgery yet, but I gave up soda five months ago in preparation. I used to drink five or so cans of diet soda a day. About a month after I gave it up, I was at a friend's house. She was renovating her kitchen so I couldn't get Water, but she gave me a coke zero, which I used to love. It really didn't taste good to me anymore! Last month I was out to lunch with a friend and tried his diet coke and I didn't like that either. So glad I have kicked that habit! I still want them when I see them, but I know I won't enjoy it if I taste it.

I loved everything potato before surgery; potato chips, fries, mash, roasted, baked!!! You name it, I loved it! But now I can barely eat five fries and I'm full AND I don't enjoy it so it's not worth it. Chips just taste blah to me whenever I try one... Mash potatoes are still OK but that's about it and I only have a few bites.

I still like fried chicken though... but I do find that I can eat less of it then grilled chicken and fried things take FOREVER to digest so I don't make it a habit.

Chili cheese dog. It used to be my holy grail of junk foods. A big ole grilled hot dog with chili, nacho cheese, mustard, ketchup and onions. I loved them. They were so dang good on a summer day with a mug of cold rootbeer.

I've probably tried them six times...hoping for some magical new result, but it's always the same. They taste like salt and greasy fat. Super nasty. I remember how they tasted....and they don't taste ANYTHING like that to me anymore. I never make it past one bite. They just gross me out now....genuinely repulsive.

It's kinda sad to me sometimes....to remember how amazing they used to taste....knowing I'll never find that again. LOL. The sane part of my brain says I'm better off....but the nostalgic part of me feels a little cheated that I can't have them for a treat ever again cause they gag me out now. LOL.

I used to love the occasional steak....don't enjoy steak anymore. Have developed an intense love of crab and shrimp (used to hate them) so I guess sometimes it's a switch?

I used to hate oatmeal and beans....couldn't live without them now.

Have always enjoyed fruits and veggies, but I'm gaga nuts for them now. The flavors are more intense and delicious.

Avocado. The taste & texture of it seems gross now. I don’t really enjoy alcohol like I did. I have a glass about once a month but often don’t finish the glass.

I’m only 3 months out from surgery….

but orange soda…. Used to love it and now it taste like rotten oranges. I just had one sip from my son’s …So gross.

pancake puppies from Denny’s? I tried a tiny bite of that and it tasted like I was guzzling the oil vat from the county fair lol. Again…. So gross.

I tried a jelly bean and spit it out immediately. It tasted horrible.

I had a bite of cupcake from my sons birthday yesterday. Also gross. It was chocolate flavored and I have never been a fan of chocolate.

I ditched sodas and sugar for the most part last october prior to surgery. I’ve found that my tastes have DEFINITELY changed as a result. I can’t have anything greasy or anything with too much sugar. It just tastes bad. I shouldn’t be eating that stuff anyways so it’s a win I guess 🤷🏼‍♀️

I LOVED potato chips before surgery and would eat a bag in one sitting. I bought my first (post-bypass) bag last week since I am trying to eat more calories as to not lose more weight (I have a lot of healthier high calorie foods too). I ate some chips. They tasted good. I had some the next day…not tasting as good. The rest of the bag is sitting on the counter and will probably get thrown out. I would rather have a big scoop of Peanut Butter for the extra calories 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️😬

Coffee: I had to start the day with a cup and now I can’t even stand the smell of it in the morning

Any breads: these make me sick and completely do not agree with my new stomach, so just looking at them makes me feel ill.

Sushi: once one of my favorite foods, rice is my number least tolerated food. I vomit within 15 mins of eating even a tiny portion. Sushi still looks appetizing to me, but I have it associated with so many vomiting or uncomfortable episodes that I’m turned off to it now.

Eggs: they just taste rubbery and gross. I also have trouble digesting so the appeal is now gone.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
