6 Months and Stalled

Recommended Posts

I have been stalled for about 6 weeks. So, from about the 5.5 month mark until almost 7 months out from bypass. I don't know what to do to break this stall and it's starting to feel like maybe this is just the end of the weight loss from surgery? I am down 73lbs which I know is a lot, but I still have a lot to go. At 5,2 I should be 110-130 and that's 80-100lbs away.

Any suggestions? Encouragement?

Also, I am loosing horrendous amounts of hair. Have been for almost 4 months! I thought that was supposed to end after 3 months or so of loosing hair.

Hi, im just over 4 months out from RNY and i also have been in a stall for around 6 weeks then iv just lost 2 pounds was devastated thought i would of lost alot more, think my body it just trying to hold onto the weight. My hair is also falling out alot, only noticed it this past month or so, iv had to upgrade my hoover to a shark antihair wrap as all the hair was wrapping around my other hoover and i was forever unclogging the brush bar. Wish i could lose weight as well as im losing my hair lol.

you may have to come down a bit on a calories or bump up your exercise to get the scale moving again. Six weeks is starting to get a bit long for a stall. As for weight loss, your body may not be done. I kept losing until I was 20 months out.

I am in the same boat, same height and same weight loss, I stopped loosing around 9 months, it has been two years, I have maintained the weight, I still usually eat under 1000 calories and I do not loose, I have 60 more I want to take off. My hair did the same but finally coming back, I had a lot of hair so it looked straggly but didn't look bald, after 2 years it is getting more full.

It was breaking and at tons of different lengths so I had to cut it and some spots are looking super thin! Since Ontario is still locked up, my husband attempted a cut... I had to shave it pretty short to save that. LOL!

I am sorry to hear you are in the same boat as me. :( I am starting to use Diet Doctor's meal planning so hopefully just really watching what I am eating will help.

I hear you. To be fair, I stopped right around the same time as we moved and I stopped tracking my intake. I might have bumped my count into maintenance. I am starting to track again this week. I don't feel like I was overdoing it, but I might have surprised myself as I am more careful when I actually see the numbers.

Photo below showing off the haircut I had to resort to and a massive change in fit on one of my favourite sweaters from before. First photo was the day I made the top and how long it was, right around my heaviest weight. Second photo was a couple days ago. Lol, I might have shrunk in height cause its a dress now! :P

I can so relate to your post. I am seven months out from RNY and I've lost 65 pounds, but I just can't seem to get to 70! I am in a stall now too, and every morning when I weigh myself I'm a bit disappointed. But what's really bothering me is the Hair loss. I am no spring chicken and have passed menopause, so my hair was thinning out even before the surgery, but now, my hair is downright sad, it's so thin! I recently ordered a couple of wigs, and I'm actually enjoying wearing them. At least I can go out in public now without looking like a plucked chicken! But it's all been worth it, because I feel good and I'm so much healthier. I went to my doc this week and she said that if my numbers keep falling like they have been, she will take me off my blood pressure med, statin, and metformin on my next visit. Yay!

I am at 7 months post opp too and have not lost much the last 6 weeks or so . I am only ten pounds away from goal but I know I have stopped loosing because I am not as diligent as the first few months . It is me that is the problem . If I weighed and tracked through the end of July I could just maintain…

I’ve been consistently hitting stalls over the past two months and I’m at the 6 month mark. I think part of my issue has been having trouble with a birth control shot. However, I’ve tried a few things like carb confusion where for one day I have more carbs than normal (nothing crazy) and bump my Protein intake up and that seems to shake loose a stall. Or I drink 80-120 ounces of Water instead of 64. The stalls still keep coming though.

About hair, up your Protein grams with a collagen powder in your drink. Really helped me. I did have a slight stall somewhere in the middle of the year but then it started coming off again.

I'm so glad I found your post, its like I could have typed it myself and am here also looking for solutions. I'm about 7 months post op from sleeve, and I haven't lost any weight since the beginning of September. I keep pingponging back and forth between the same 2 pounds. I thought it was just a stall but its been so long now. I'm at 207, and I'm SO CLOSE to hitting 199 and I just want to get there... my goal was to get down to 180 but I would be ok if that never happens - I just want to go past 200! I'm hopeful that you finally started losing again that maybe this just happens for all of us!

This is a weird suggestion, but it's worked for many people here—have you tried *increasing* your calorie intake by 100-150 or so a day? Especially if it's (good) carbs.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
