Miss Chugging Water

Recommended Posts

My surgery was just this past Monday, May 10th. I miss chugging big gulps of ice cold Water. I’m ok with taking little sips for now, while my stomach heals. But will there be a time I can gulp cold water again? And if so, how long did it take you?

yes. I can't remember when I could start doing that again - but it was definitely within the first year.

I know I'm gonna miss this too. Usually in a sip/chug I can take down like 4 oz at a time. LOL

Six months out for me I think it was, when I could do it without thinking/noticing, made all the difference! Was tough to start with, but it really does get easier.

I'm really going to miss this. I can drink a 20oz bottle of Water in one go... I've been trying to practice small sips, but it's so unsatisfying.

It only took me a few weeks to have bigger than sips of Water. After 3-4 months I was back able to drink at my normal pace. Now at nearly two years out I drink on average 120 oz of water/day with no problem.

I can't gulp as much as I used to.. Before I could drink a lot of Water really fast, but I can gulp about a cup at a time which is way more than I expected, so that is a pleasant surprise. The biggest thing I miss is drinking and eating at the same time because I used to drink a ton with my meals, but I've adjusted to it.

Still can’t gulp after two years. I used to be able to down 1/2 litre in one go but I would be thirsty. Now I can only take one mouthful & drink it in two swallows but that’s it. The other day without thinking I took three big swallows & my restriction kicked in. Probably better to sip continuously all through the day to keep your hydration up & not wait until You feel thirsty & your levels are low ... well that’s what I tell myself. 😉

Same! I can’t chug Water at all. Sometimes I take two gulps and I’m like yikes slow down! Feels like my throat gets tight. Like a burp is in the way or something. So I just take it slow. Small sips

This is one of my fears/worries. I don't know why but I do enjoy slamming down a Water quick. Especially when you're just ssoooooo thirsty! Looks like it's individual, though since some of you can drink almost like pre-surgery and some still have to sip. I also am not keen on the not water at meals thing, but my doctor says after about 3 months you can drink right up until you eat (then not until 30 minutes after again).

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
