Hello everyone I have a question, Am I the only one that is fighting the urge to want to eat food. I know it’s only a mind thing, but that’s what I am going thru right now. No pain no issues only dealing with the thought of food mentally.

I thought about food a lot too. It’s not worth it though. You can seriously hurt yourself. I had extra crafts and stuff to distract myself for the first few weeks because I knew it would be difficult if I didn’t stay busy. That helped me a lot. I also watched Netflix to avoid the food commercials. Although they are always eating on tv as well so I mostly did crafts.

I am hoping I get the clear to move to puree phase tomorrow🤞. Is the ricotta bake good for the puree phase or is this something I should hold off on till the soft foods? I can have ricotta and sauce but wasn't sure if anyone had experience with it.

Yes I did it for puree stage. I just did 2 eggs mixed with a 15oz container of fat free or reduced fat ricotta, spices as you wish, topped with enough smooth sauce to cover the ricotta and then sprinkled some fat free mozzarella on top. Baked at 400 for about 20-25 minutes I believe. I used a 9x9 baking pan and cut into 9 servings which came out to around 100 calories each 9g Protein, 3 carb.

I'm 4 weeks out today and I had a rough day yesterday. I was exhausted when I woke up in the morning. Had no desire to eat or drink and generally felt crappy. At some point in the late afternoon I took two bigger sips of Water and then immediately vomited. It burned like heck, my throat was burning for probably 2 hours afterwards even with drinking more and trying to wash it away.

I'm fairly certain I did not drink enough the day before so I woke up feeling crappy and then continued to not drink well for the first half of the day. I focused on fluids over eating in the afternoon and I feel better today. So I do not recommend even slight dehydration, no fun.

I’m still on 8 more days of full fluids 😜 (…since my surgery was last day of May) I took steristrips off my 3 upper incisions…they are so small. They all look good. I have a feeling my main incision will not look as good, I’m scared to take the strips off to see… It has only been 9 days, I think they said remove Day 14 if they haven’t come off…

Mine told me to take my steristrips off between 7-10 days so I took them all off on day 9.

This looks fantastic! Thank you for posting looking forward to trying it!

I left out the basil because I wasn’t sure about it on purée but I love garlic so I added extra garlic powder. Yes. It was delicious. I ate it almost everyday through my purée phase and have even eaten it since I am on regular food.

I did it! As I guessed, the one they take the stomach out was the only bad one I have. It’s healing fine, just spread a bit, I don’t think the nurses put the steristrips on good when she replaced them. (I suspected this after I was able to take the covering bandage off after 72 hours.) My other 4 will barely leave a scar.

Had a setback. Yesterday am got an intense very bad pain across my upper back. Went to ER... they did a CAT scan, found a “new” hiatal hernia. Part of my sleeve surgery was to fix the rather large one I had. They don’t know if the stitches gave out and it came back, or is a small hernia was left by the surgery. Only thing they can do is wait & see. Also I have diverticulitis — an infection in my colon from trapped stool. [emoji52][emoji17][emoji3061][emoji2961]

I am sick.
I'm so sorry to hear that, I hope everything works out!

I had surgery May 5th; have lost 17 pounds. However, for the last week I’ve had diverticulitis. Maybe it’s the antibiotics, but I am so weak. All I want to do is sleep. This isn’t good… I contacted the clinic. They said it’s because I am not getting enough Protein and calories. They never told me the number of calories to be consumed each day. I’ve been getting 500. They said I need to double that but only eat 3 meals/day. food stays a long time in my pouch, and so far I haven’t been able to eat much at a time. With what they want me to eat, along with the tiny portions only three times a day…. it doesn’t make much sense to me how I will get in 1,000. Anyone else run into this?

My program has us eating 5-6 times per day, about every 2-3 hours and even with that I typically get around 600 calories. 1,000 would definitely be a struggle at this point.

I had my surgery on May 3rd and same here. 3 meals a day or 5-6 smaller meals and I eat about 500-600 calories max per day. It would be really rough getting to 1000 per day. I know I am not allowed to eat that much right now either.

Had my surgery May 19th but aside from amounts, i.e., like 2 oz or 4 oz being listed for foods, they never mention anything about calories for the day in the puree or soft food stages for me.

My plan does not mention calories until I finally move on to regular foods and then they say I should AVOID consuming over 1000 calories a day for the first year. It also says I should be striving for the following each day:

7 meat/protein servings
1 milk serving
3 starch servings
2 fruit servings
2 non starchy vegetable servings
2 healthy fat servings

Today I start soft foods and it says I should strive for:

5 protein/dairy
2 fruits/veggies
1 starch
1 fat

And again, the amounts and suggestions they have next to each of the different foods listed are for 2 and 4 oz servings during this stage.

I'll learn about the next stages for my program tomorrow. I'm still on Full Fluids, and my calories are on average around 600. (Checked Bariastic, since surgery my avg is 511; but that would be due to some lower days intitally) I know they told me just focus on Protein & Fluid intake. 60 minimum, but aim for 100 if you can. (My avg is 78, this week has been over 90).

I'm down 15LB from the start of liquid diet 2 days before surgery. Since I am lower BMI, that is already 20% of my EBW.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
