I just needed a place to complain, I've been noticing how almost all shows are set in a bar, a restaurant or kitchen!!! I can't even watch one of my favorite shows Bob's burgers without thinking "man a burger would be great right now!" I'm ready too change my life and I love the results I'm getting but almost all the time when I'm watching a show I want to eat something salty, crunchy, or cheesy! I've got a problem [emoji30]

I'm a little past a year since my surgery, I got my surgery done May 19th 2021. My starting weight was 272lb and my current weight is 189lb I'm 5'9 and my goal is 172. I've had bad days to where I've eaten carbs and sugar but I do my best when I have cooked my meals ahead of time and have protein early in my day! Thanks for everyone sharing their journey, it helps keep me going, knowing I'm not alone!

I am having a hard time not blaming myself for being 100 pounds overweight and having high cholesterol, high blood sugar, fatty liver, and other health problems.
How did I get here, I've been asking myself.
I was under the most extreme stress of my life for the past several years. I lost track of the fact that stress can affect the heart and cholesterol, etc. or I would have handled things differently. Now I might be having heart problems, which I NEVER though would happen...I'm very careful not to eat foods that are high in saturated fat. Genetics are working against me. My father and brother were about 100 pounds overweight when they had sleeve surgery, and a few cousins had gastric bypass surgery. I've taken medications that affect the metabolic system, so I think that system is totally dysfunctional now. I feel like I've failed my body by not taking care of it. It makes me very sad. On the other hand, I feel like this body isn't really mine. The real me is hidden in this body. But I swear to you I've had the best of intentions. I have done some things right, like eating lots of vegetables and fruits and drinking tons of water.
I'm making an appointment with a bariatric surgeon to discuss gastric bypass surgery. That day can't come soon enough. I'm looking forward to being on the path that you all have bravely taken.
Has anyone else had feelings like these? I seem to be overcome by them lately.

I can relate. I did great the first year. Then stupid COVID hit and I gained weight, which I had promised myself I would never do again. And I got out of ONEderland, which again I promised myself I'd never do. But I picked myself up, dusted myself off, forgave myself and am starting back with the basics of protein, monitoring/tracking food, water intake, and exercise and the weight is coming off again. The WLS still works! It's a tool that will work as long as I use it.

Food can still entertain, just not in the quantities you consumed beforehand. I've been reading so many posts with the theme of missing food....I have to admit it goes through my mind sometimes too. A change that I've recently made is to not be distracted by TV, phone, computer etc, and with every single mouthful think about the nutrition, texture, taste. I feel like I'm eating a lot more mindfully, and starting to really enjoy a (small) meal.
I've started growing herbs from seeds. Strange I know, but I work from home in a very isolated place that we have just moved to. No close friends nearby, and sadly had to have our dogs put to sleep last weekend. I have no company at all during the day, and just the family at night. The delivery man must think I'm nuts, I chatter away non stop to him! My point is, I am inside all day at my desk, so taking an interest in growing herbs and shortly a full vege garden gets me outside and doing something that keeps me active and my mind busy.
This site is a great place to get advice and just chat to people. Good luck on your journey, it will get easier every day.

I'm about 3 weeks post-surgery and every time I see someone eating something I won't be able to have for a few months, it makes me crave it...and it's not the items you'd think. Every time I see someone eating a salad on TV I keep thinking how good and fresh it looks meanwhile I'm over here with my 1/2 cup of plain Chobani like....

ONE YEAR LATER… my surgery for gastric sleeve was on May 26, 2021… I have lost 90 pounds and still hope to lose about 20 pounds but I feel great. I started at 268 and wearing 2xl and size 20 pants and XL tops. They were all snug. I am now wearing 12-14 (size L) bottoms and M tops. I carry most of my weight from the waist down.

My surgery and recovery was not bad at all. I immediately began walking and am back up to walking/jogging 3-4 miles several times a week. I also do reformer Pilates four times a week. That has been a game changer for me.

I have had NO reflux and no other issues since surgery. For that I am most thankful. I don’t get hungry and minimal cravings. I don’t really eat a lot of dairy since surgery. It may be the only adverse outcome from surgery. I am looking forward to the warmer months so I can benefit from the fresh fruit and veggies that are available.

This surgery was a game changer for me. I am so glad I did it and am thankful for my surgical team and my husband for his amazing support. I am considering doing some skin removal but maybe not for another year to see where we are then.

The first photo is from the first day of my two week liquid diet before surgery and a photo taken last month. The other four are a series of photos one of my coworkers took over the past year - date stamped.

Wishing all of you a happy 1 year anniversary! Hope we can all continue to give as many success stories a year from now!!!

    Hi May Sleevers,
Well it's been less than 48 hours since my surgery, and I may be the exception to the rule, but I feel really good! Overnight in the hospital and got great care, good rest, and good meds. Home yesterday and taking it easy. No gas pains at all. A little rumbling and "bubbles" in my abdomen once in a while but no pain. This morning I gulped my gatorade and learned that's not the way to do it :).
Surgery was quick and I don't remember anything passed wheeling out of the prep room. Wishing those of you with upcoming dates an equally seamless beginning.
PS I am self pay with Dr. Shillingford in Boca Raton, FL, and he has my very highest regards (the hospital staff too!)

I'm loving these 1 year check-ins. Having VSG first thing in the morning, and I just sat outside watching the birds & squirrels play and questioning, "Do I really need to do this?" You all are helping me see the light. YES I DO. Wish me luck!

    Hi All.
May 24th will be one year since I had my sleeve surgery. And June 28th, 2022 will be my revision to bypass surgery. I have lost around 25 pounds since May 24, 2021. At one point it was about 33 pounds. But Its been the same weight since August/Sept 2021. And now I have GERD really bad as well. So back to surgery I go. I am happy to read your progress and see you all are doing well. Continued Best Wishes!

Almost one full year later and I’ve maintained my weight loss from my sleeve. At one point, I was down 116 pounds, but that was too much. I gained 14 of those back and I’m in a good place. Unfortunately, back in January, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and had to have it removed along with some cancerous lymph nodes. I’m sure that will have some affect on my weight in the future as people who are hypothyroid tend to gain a bit of weight. I’m in a hyperthyroid state right now so my appetite is rather large. I’m still able to maintain though so I’m happy with that.

I don't hit my one year until the end of the month. I keep wondering if I'm at where I'm going to land. I've been hovering around the same weight for about 6 weeks now.
    I have lost 77 lbs, started at 245, now around 168. (For context I'm 5'9", 49 y.o.)
My highest adult weight was around 268..so in the grand scheme, I'm down 100 from my highest weight. I certainly have loose skin - and I have given consideration to getting my stomach and and arms done once things settle. I have still lost inches in the last couple months, so things are still changing.
I am prefectly fine if this where I land. I have practically replaced my entire wardrobe, at this size ?

Today is my one year anniversary also! I feel like I have had the same ups, downs, and experiences that you have had as well. I have gone from 280 to 166 as of Sunday. I’m so afraid of regaining and also that I’m not at a healthy weight for my height (5’3) yet. Sometimes I have to remind myself of how far I’ve come. How far we have all come. It’s kind of mind boggling and amazing how far we have all come in a year. Congrats and happy one year!

Today marks one year exactly for me since my surgery and while these last few pounds have been so hard Im only 5 lbs from goal. I can not believe that its only been a year. I started my journey approx a year and a half ago and truly didn't think I would be this close to goal already.
I have had some slip ups, some stalls and have thrown up from overeating but I just get back on track and remind myself its not a race its not a competition its a life change

I haven't gotten as far with my weight loss, I'm on week 3. However I was thinking something similar about what my life will be like without food for entertainment and bonding with others... Like what is enjoyable in my world outside of food and how to keep my activities fun and consistent.(outside of fast food)[emoji30] thanks for sharing your thoughts, I definitely feel less alone!
