I had mine on 4/23. Biggest issues are constant gas pain and trying to get enough calories/water! Any ideas for calories on a full liquid diet?

Got my sleeve 4/27, so today was my first full day at home. Not worrying about calories just yet, just trying to get as close to 60 oz Fluid and 60g Protein. Much harder than I imagined... took me until 5pm to finish 14 oz of Unjury chicken Soup flavor Protein Powder (21g) mixed with Water and Bone Broth (9g). Now trying to get a Protein Shake down before I'm too tired... and fitting in water in between. I hear it gets easier with each passing day!

Interesting question. I'm only at 3 weeks. During my first week, I was on the clear liquid diet. I didnt think about calorie intake at all. Was just trying to drink Water and Protein Drinks. Then at week 2, I transitioned to full liquids for 2 weeks. I didnt think about calorie intake then either. Actually, I haven't thought about it now when I'm at just 3 weeks and on the soft food stage.

Hmmm. Am I supposed to be thinking about calories at this point ? My focus is still water, Protein, and starting to get in veggies. How many calories at week 1, 2, or 3 did your program recommend? I'm just curious. Looking at my booklet from my protein, the focus is 64oz of water and 60oz of protein right now. No calorie info.

Wow, you just had surgery. For my first week, my program just had us working towards 40g of Protein. They understood that all bodies are different right after surgery so 60 would probably be a challenge for most of us still only days into recovery. Plus, all liquids the first week counted towards Fluid. So, we did not have to have a full 64oz of just water. Like broth could count. Good luck, and it's understandable that at just 2 days post, it's hard to get all of that in. Man!

Every passing day gets exponentially better. I only worry about being hydrated but these posts prove that everyone is different. I had a horrific 24 hours after surgery and nearly had to stay a second night so go figure ! What i can say is the difference from surgery to 3 days later is incredible. i can drink my 64 ounces which includes 3 Protein drinks a day for protein requirements.

So on day 4 (of 7) I began to feel lightheaded and dizzy. I had been sleeping most of days 1-3 so didn’t consume much of anything. Talked to the bariatric nurse (day 5) who asked me about calorie count. I told her I’ve (like you all) I’d been focused on trying to get the 64 oz liquids/60g Protein in. She basically told me to vary my diet and try to get more calories. So, drank some liquidy butternut squash Soup, and watered down some yogurt. The Soup is only 80 calories per cup. The chicken broth we have has 1g of Protein and even fewer calories. She suggested I could have sugar free popsicles, so looked and they’re a whopping 25 calories each. So, I’m finding all this very challenging because My stomach isn’t big enough to drink all the fluids, consume protein, and worry about calories! Gaaaah (exasperated yell) This is why I asked my question. Lol!

That's interesting. So, I did not like chicken broth in the carton. So, I bought Campbell's Chunky Chicken Noodle soup.and drained off the broth. That had more flavor and calories than just broth in the container. Then I added a half scoop of unflavored protein powder to it. I also added protein powder to some Jello that I had in between Water and Protein Shakes. When I could have cream Soups, I strained them also. They have more calories. I did NOT add protein powder to the cream soups.

We’re going grocery shopping later. These are great ideas! I am getting unflavored protein powder in the mail tomorrow. Thanks for sharing.

I also wasn’t clear on all liquids counting towards my 64oz. Which makes sense and makes things a lot less stressful. Lol

Quick note. I chose Campbell's Chunky chicken Noodle Soup in the red cans instead of the regular chicken noodle soup in the white cans because the broth in the red cans seemed to have more flavor and seemed to be thinner or more like Water. The broth of the soup in their classic white and red cans seemed oily and the protein powder didnt seem to mix as well with it. So, just wanted to clarify exactly which soup I used and why.

That varies by programs. For me, that was true for Week 1 when I was on Clear Liquids. Now that I'm in Week 3 and Stage 3, my program does want me to just count Water for the 64oz goal. So, check with your program. Hopefully they will clarify. Honestly, my program was like if you can get 48oz of water in Week 1, that's great. And other liquids added to that counted towards my 64 liquid goal. So, Week 1 there was a liquid goal of 64, but now I have a WATER goal of 64 oz. My program also explained that during the first few days people's bodies were responding differently water, different temperatures, etc so they just wanted us to get in liquids as much as we could. Then as we moved forward, our bodies would hopefully be more accepting to water as we moved into the later part of Week 1 and certainly in Week 2. I know some people on here say they were drinking 60 oz of water by Day 3 or 4, but that's specific to them. Everyone is different. Some folks are struggling just to get two water bottles down, lol. We are all having our own journeys. Be patient with yourself and certainly ask your program for clarity.

Thank you for your suggestions. The difference in program guidelines tells me that there is not necessarily only one way to do the stages. That actually makes me feel better, lol. Going shopping now!

My surgery was 4/23.

I had to go in yesterday to get fluids. I was dehydrated and having some issues. Mine is mostly related to my hernia repair. It’s been rough. I’m doing better with my Protein and Water intake today.

I went in the first night because I threw up brown stuff and couldn’t manage the nausea. Looking back I don’t think I was tolerating Water very well. They said I was dehydrated, gave me fluids, I think morphine, consulted with the bariatric dr on call and sent me home saying I’m not gonna die. I’m still having gas pains and still kind of dizzy but I think things will get better once I get different sources of Protein and liquids. Hang in there!

My story actually started 5 yrs ago... Attending my 3 appt, routine blood work... 6 months later we welcomed boy #4! 5 yrs later, back in January I was hospitalized for over a week with what started out as TSS, it then progressed into a bacterial blood infection. I was mortified when over the intercom they requested lifting help... for me! I couldnt believe I let myself get up to 278. In the following days my blood sugars jumped into the 500's. I was put on an insulin drip (I had been diet controlled for 7yrs). I went home on 70 units of lantus and a 1 to 5 carb ratio! I started the process a week later and on May 16th I changed my life forever!! This time I left the hospital off all 3 blood pressure meds, all insulin and a new lease on life. I'll be there for my boys! I'm 43 and 20 yrs ago my dad died of a massive heart attack at 46 yrs old! I have always been heavy, I can remember 3rd grade walking home with boys following going boom... Boom... Boom every time I took a step. Now the only step I'm taking is for my HEALTH. I lost 15 lbs pre liquid diet, 12 lbs in the 2 weeks of liquid and 21 in the 3 week post. I haven't been this weight since Phen-Phen! Thanks for letting me tell my story. I am sooo glad I found you guys, wish they would give this app info with everything else from the hospital!! Oh the picture was from in the hospital, I made a Straw and Tape Crown when I was feeling better. :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
