we really like Beyond Burgers and Impossible Burgers.

for sausage patties, they're all pretty good since most of the taste of sausage comes from the spices rather than the meat. They can be a bit dry, though - but then you won't notice that if you're just crumbling them up and putting them in something like chili or spaghetti or an omelet.

I'm a big fan of impossible burgers. I love the impossible whopper at burger king. I cut it in half and eat half...in two one quarter sandwich sittings.

I love mycoprotien. I eat a lot of of Quorn brand chicken nuggets and chicken cutlets. Mycoprotien is from mushrooms, not soy. It's my favorite fake chicken.

I do eat tofu a couple times a week. Love it firm, cubed, in salads and chili.

I used to be a fan of garden burgers and some of the other soy burgers....but ever since impossible burger.....the rest are ruined for me. The plant based heme is just amazing. Sometimes I like a black bean chickpea "burger", but I don't think of it as meat replacement somehow.

The first couple months after surgery I ate a lot of plant based “meats.” They were much easier in my healing tummy than real meat Proteins. My favorites at the time were marinated and baked tofu, Boca burgers, and Morning Star Farms sausage links. I have never tried Impossible Burgers. The main thing for me early post-op was texture. Smooth texture foods seemed to cause me less tummy aches. I haven’t been eating this stuff for a few months now, as I got kind of burned out and the tummy got better at handling meat Protein. It is about time to bake some tofu though. 😊

Reading all of these posts, I may have to give it a try. I am very leery about eating plant based meats for some reason. Is it more Protein than regular meat? Why do you eat it? Are you vegan, vegetarian, etc.?

I eat meat in general, but I haven't knowingly eaten ground beef since the Mad Cow scare started up c. 20 years ago. Mad Cow disease hasn't been a problem in the US for several years, or not that I know of, but there seems to be an E. coli breakout every year or two from tainted ground beef, so I avoid it. I don't miss it overall (I use sausage in things like lasagna, spaghetti, and chili now - which I actually like better than ground beef), but I do miss good burgers. So now I can have them - with Beyond Burger and Impossible Burger. they're great!

I just like it better. meat has never been my thing. I do eat meat, but have always eaten a lot of vegan and vegetarian dishes simply because I enjoy them. I'd a lot rather get my protien from oats, whole grains, Beans, chickpeas, peas, potatoes, mushrooms, soy. I do eat dairy and eggs quite a bit, greek yogurt and cottage cheese go into a lot of recipes. I do like fish, shellfish, mollusks. I do like roast turkey and chicken...but I avoid deli meats and prefer the real deal. Red meats are a very rare thing in my diet. Ground meat is a total turn off...don't eat it.

In the end, it's all personal preference. No one size fits all. Eat what you enjoy:)

I like the boca burgers, or Morningstar grilled patties. I’ll heat up one for dinner with a fried egg on top. I can’t generally finish it but it’s good! I’m a huge fan of Morningstar sausage links.

I’m not a full vegetarian, I’ll eat poultry or fish on occasion, but I won’t eat any mammal so that rules out pretty much everything else.

I also avoid deli meats because of the chemicals in them. I only eat red meat, hamburger, maybe 2 x's a month, if that. I can not process steak, still, after 7 months PO. It just sits in my belly, and it hurts going down.

I have read some stuff about this in the past. It is def something to be aware of. I will do more research to see if this is something I will eat. If I do, it would only be once in a while for a substitute.

My other reason...livestock are just incredibly hard on the environment. Getting the same protien with a better carbon footprint makes me feel good. I don't judge anyone who eats meat....crap, I do, sometimes. But cutting back a little is good for cholestrol levels and good for the planet.

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
