I wish that I wasn't out of pocket, that is what has held me back before is the $10,000. My BMI is about 32 which I know is low. Its more than just the weight loss that I'm hoping to have, its freedom from medicine for diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol. I sure hope that is it money well spent, I keep talking myself in and out of it.

You will be! I was in a similar situation with my BMI and my meds (all the same as you) and I had a lap band put in. I was off almost all my meds - it was amazing. I lost over a hundred pounds and kept it off for years until my band slipped and was removed and then it was all back on and more.

Submitting everything early March after my last nutritionist appt on March 4th, so we'll see! I'm getting really nervous.

Hopefully you will be joining us Marchers - if not, I am sure you will be in early April.

Are you going through the process again for the sleeve or bypass?

Hello everyone I am having gastric bypass surgery on March 17th. I was initially supposed to have the sleeve but due to a small tumor found on my stomach I had to switch to gastric bypass with a tumor resection. Either way I am very excited and nervous. Good luck to everyone!

I hope everything goes well for you. Mine is scheduled March 22. I just got approved by my insurance. Now I have to wait for MA to approve elective surgery again. * fingers crossed *

I am scheduled for March 15th. My sister works for a COVID clinic near where I live and they are expecting another spike in cases around here. I hope they are wrong and my surgery can go as planned!

I just found out I’m only allowed to have 1 visitor the whole time I’m in the hospital, and it has to be the same person the whole time, so I feel bad that some people can’t be there to support me who wanted to be there.

I will be on a liquid diet 2 weeks prior to surgery. I can have popsicles, Jello, fruit and vegetable juice, milk, Protein Drinks, broth, etc.

Hi - I am new to the site. My sleeve surgery is scheduled for March 10th. Anyone else here set for March? I am super anxious but also looking forward to it. I had a lap band in 2009 and a slip in 2014 that required removal. Curious as to what your pre-op diet looks like. I am on partial liquids now and full liquids for two weeks before the surgery.

Nice to meet everyone!

I just found out on Wednesday that I am scheduled for 3/23! I'm really, really excited.

I’m scheduled for March 1st. I had the band in 2010...never really helped. Got it removed last Oct and am finally ready to make this happen. I’ll be starting my liquid diet Monday and be on it for 14 days pre-op

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
