@ShoppGirl Did you end up getting one? I did one in June, 3 months before surgery and I'm signed up to get another one next week. Hoping for improvement!

Actually no, I had forgotten about it. My scale says I have 31% body fat though (not sure what is typical for a woman). I know it’s not exactly precise but I wonder how close it is to accurate. I still have a bit to lose to reach my goal, i may still do it to see how close my scale is. I am curious to know how your second one goes though (how it compares to the first). I wish I could have afforded to do one before to have something to compare it to.

I keep meaning to use my home body fat scale in between, but it's such a PITA that I never use it!

Here is what I found on Body fat %

Women Men
Athletes 14-20% 6-13%
Fitness 21-24% 14-17%
Acceptable 25-31% 18-25%
Obese 32% plus 26% plus

Well at least I’m acceptable. Lol. That’s if it were accurate. It would make sense though cause I am just at the cusp and I’m just at the cusp of normal weight and obese also.

I get one annually. Including my first baseline one, i’ve had 4 so far.

I can’t remember exactly what the number was at the very beginning…but it was something in the low-mid 40s (talking about percentage of body fat stat)

But at Year 1 it was 13% (i still maintain the machine was broken that day)
Y2: 22%
Y3: 24%

For funsies, am including some google searched images of what body fat percentages look like on men and women below (this is just an example!!)

Though despite what it shows below, i looked NOTHING like that first example pic in my first year (before plastics) I was waaay less FIRM-looking lol.

At my first one (which was several months into my weight loss journey but a few months before surgery) I was over 55%. My current body fat per my home scale is 48.7% (by my home scale in May it was 57%).

I don't know about these pictures. My semi-ex boyfriend has a 6% body fat and he just looks really scrawny, no muscles at all. He is strong, but there's no six pack or anything. Certainly no pectoral definition (or arm definition for that matter).

Yeah, these are more for peeps who actually exercise. Though i imagine someone with 6 percent body fat with little to no muscle would essentially be comprised literally of just skin and bones!

”semi-ex boyfriend”….😂 LOVE. IT.

He is basically skin and bones and a giant but dysfunctional brain. We're still very close. The word in Spanish is "amigovios", if you speak Spanish. If not, it's a cross between "amigos" (friends) and "novios" (boyfriend/girlfriend).

He's actually really supportive of my weight loss efforts, despite liking larger women and not understanding weight issues at all. He's 5'10" and weighs 135lb soaking wet and holding a cheese stick (that is literally how he weighed himself when he was here last).

Your DEXA scans are $150?!?! Out here it's $39.99 and they're in mobile vans. I had one in December (really wanted to be under 30%, came in at 30.7% damn it) and the next will be scheduled mid-March.

Mine are $99. I'm in Boston. There might be more competition in CA. I have to go up to the 4th floor of an old building. I would be thrilled to be at 30.7%!!!! I'm hoping for 45% lol

Women always have higher bodyfat than men—I'm aiming for under 20% and hoping for 15%.

Yes, I realize that, but you're doing pretty good even for a guy! What did you start at?

Update: I got my DEXA scan yesterday. I went down from 51.6% to 41.7%!!! I know I have a long way to go before I'm healthy, but I was excited. I lost about 12 lbs of lean mass, but also lost 50lbs of fat mass. This is since Jun 2021, so two months before my surgery when I'd already lost 40 lbs from my highest weight.

I'm trying to decide how long I want to wait until my next scan, but in reality it will likely be dictated more by my travel schedule.

I think you said you were hoping to be below 45 so 41.7 yay. That is awesome.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
