Had my pre-op visit today and finally got the dreaded pre-op diet. A Protein Shake for Breakfast, another for lunch, and for dinner, 3-4 oz of Protein and a cup of steamed vegetables. I'm starving already. I can also have 1-2 cups of broth and all the Water I want, as long as it's at least 64 oz. On the drive home, I was thinking I could maybe stop and pick up one last hamburger or some Mexican food, but since this is a food change I'm going to have to do for life, I figured I'd better get on with it. 13 days to surgery. I'll be glad to get it over with, because then at least I won't feel hungry.

Sounds yummy, can't wait to start my 14 days next week. 🤪

My doctor isn’t making me have a endoscopy. Why did y’all have to have one? If y’all don’t mind me asking? Was it required by insurance?

My doctor never mentioned one for me. Just the pre-op diet (10 days, low carb/low cal) that I start on the 23rd - I also have to take my temperature every day for 10 days. I think that's a hospital requirement rather than my surgeon; pre-op lab work (dunno what this involves) on the 28th; covid testing on the 30th (also hospital requirement); and my surgery is on November 2.

Every surgeon has different requirements. As someone else said previously, my surgeon likes to perform the endoscopy prior to the surgery for multiple reasons. To get a better look at things, to diagnose any gerd or hernias that may be present. I think it just provides an overview and eliminates any obstacles that may come up during the surgery. If you don't have to do it then hey, that's one less step for you.

Generally you see if you have a hiatal hernia and check for gastritis. If you have either, a sleeve could make things worse and they’d generally opt for a bypass.

A hiatal hernia does not disqualify you from a sleeve gastrectomy. I believe there are different types of hiatal hernias and of course it just depends on the individual and the surgeon. There are many people , as evidenced by the many videos online, that have had successful sleeve gastrectomy with hiatal hernia. I think that was the thought maybe 10 plus years ago but not anymore. And again it depends on the individual, the surgeon and the other comorbidities and health concerns - all that good stuff.

At least you get to have some real food in your diet. I just picked up my supplies today and it's 90% liquid. I get to have a small banana every once in awhile and a mini Protein Bar which I'm not really fond of. Never been a fan of Protein Bars it's like a candy bar..... just, no thank you. I would love to have a bowl of vegetables. This should be interesting.

That would be hard. I’m not a fan of Protein bars either, although it might sound pretty appetizing in a few days.

My doc is repairing my hiatal hernia when he does the sleeve.

Please quote this post and respond only with your surgery date. Quote the last person who responds as that will carry all our dates in one post. Curious to see if the chain would work. Thanks for trying. 😁

I'm with you! I'm not a fan of Protein bars either. I did find one that I liked. I loved the breaded taste. It was probably terrible choice. haha Will have to see what kind it was.

I'm going to echo what some have already said. It's the surgeon's choice. My surgeon had me do one to check for hernias. It was one of the firs things that I did almost 6 months ago.

I don't think that works, cuz I end up with an empty quote that way. If you want, when I get home later, I can go through and pull everyone's date and post them all in one post? I just can't do it right now (I'm out running errands), or I would.

Surgery date: Monday, 11/2 (VickieRenee)

Also, I had to cut and paste because when I tried to quote the last post. I know that's been said but I"m repeating as I haven't figured out how to delete posts...

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
