Scale Torture

Recommended Posts

I went to sleep last night at 195 lbs. This morning, I wake up, I drink a Protein Shake, and the scale is at 190!! Same spot on the floor, it's a digital scale so I make sure to zero it every time. But still... this scale!! This evening I'll probably come in at 200! I've been trying to weigh myself less and enjoy the NSVs but... damn. Anyone else see HUGE fluctuations in weight overnight?

I always weigh myself in the buff, first thing in the morning, after going to the bathroom. Almost the same time everyday to eliminate food, Water, exercise, etc. fluctuations. Good luck!!

I tend not to record my weight until I'm sure I'm below it in the evening... my thinking is that it's more similar to how it'll be at the doctor's office post-op. I weigh myself occasionally in the morning just to see the change throughout the day. I do realize it's less consistent... but this is the first time I've seen a 5 lb swing overnight!

Weight can fluctuate up to +/-10lbs a day based on hormones, food, Water intake, exercise, and time of day. I wouldn’t worry about it so much. I’m terrible at stepping on a scale more than I should but I don’t let it control how I’m feeling or hinder my progress.

I weigh myself the same time every Monday morning, wearing nothing but my own skin. You can *very* easily get obsessed with the scale, and it fluctuates so much during the day. It's best to do first thing in the morning. Try not to fixate on it, if you can? You're doing really well, and the scale number is just a number.

As others have said, it's very common to weigh more in the evening then in the morning. I would pick 1 time of day and stick to it. For me, I weigh Saturday mornings before I have anything to eat and drink so the trend should be fairly accurate. Of course, weight still fluctuates throughout the month as well....

you may need a new scale or to balance the scale with a 5lb flour bag. but i do want to add it seems really crazy the scale is moving so fast i dont believe it either as it is happening and this is due to trying to lose weight on my own losing 3 gaining 5 prior to surgery

I guess I was fortunate(?) to be too large for any scale but my surgeons.

Ever heard "Lies, damned lies, and statistics"? I'm sure Twain was speaking of scales.

I learned to measure my progress by evaluating:

1) compliance with my program;

2) how I felt; how my clothes felt; how my life felt; These are the important things, not a damn scale.

I still don't weight at home, and only at doctors when asked. It's just not important to me.

Do you.

Thanks all. I think scale "torture" may have been overkill- I’m not obsessed with it and don’t let it get in the way of my life or my program. I just find it surprising that such big swings can be seen overnight... The fact that 5 lbs is gone just from using whatever waters leftover in your system & burning reserves while you sleep is fascinating to me.

I do like to track my weight as I photograph myself every 10 lbs lost. I usually take photos at night, and this is part of why I track my end-of-day weight even if it may be less consistent than my morning weight.

Yeah im in line with others who believe it as a trickster lol. Or maybe scale technology isnt solid yet otherwise why do we weigh a different amount at different doctors offices throughout the day? If there was a solid version of scale all doctors would own it and wed weigh the same at each physicians office

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
