Recommendation for Protein Powders

Recommended Posts

you're going to get about 100 different answers for this because people's tastes are all over the board. I never liked Premier Protein, but a lot of people love it. I loved Syntrax, but some people don't like it at all. The best thing to do is just pick up a bunch of packets at someplace like Vitamin Shoppe or GNC - or order some sample packets online. You can even get some here at the BariatricPal Store (although some are available on Amazon as well)

I liked Syntrax and Unjury products the best, but again, tastes are really all across the board.

I like the unflavored Protein powder - I also found most of the protein products too sweet. The unflavored is much more versatile - you can even add it to savory things.

My favorite that I have tried is the coconut almond Vega brand.

I couldn't tolerate any of the Protein powders until my nutritionist suggested GENEPRO. It is unflavored and, though others say it can't be tasted at all, it's a little thick so I mix it with Metamucil every morning. It provides 30g of protein.

Sample several powders if you can.

@Rose57 Not only are you going to get 100 different answers, but YOUR tastes may change pre and post-op.

For example, I really liked the Premier Protein ready-to-drink shakes before surgery. They tasted good and they were convenient. After surgery, I just couldn't tolerate them. They were too sweet and the texture seemed a little too thick and slimy for me.

I was fortunate enough to receive several samples after surgery. I liked the Bariatric Advantage, but my favorite by far is Unjury. I keep several canisters in my pantry as staples and ALWAYS have some unflavored on hand. I also liked that Unjury had savory flavors. Not a fan of the Santa Fe Chili, but the chicken Soup is very good (high in sodium).

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
