Coming up on 5 weeks post surgery.

Recommended Posts

Hi All, I am curious of what I can eat and what can I not eat. I do have a very small list from my doctor but I am curious if I can eat ground beef, or popcorn, and other things. Can you all share some of the things you all ate at 5 weeks post op. Thank!

You should follow the list that your doctor gave. If you have questions maybe reach out to the nutritionist?

I would not recommend something like popcorn at 5 weeks out.

At 5 weeks I was still on a restricted list from my Dr. and I followed that until cleared at my 6 week appointment for other things. At 6 weeks my Dr cleared me for anything that followed the Bariatric diet. Protein first, hitting 6-70 grams per day. Then veggies, then whole grains if room. popcorn is on my no-no list forever.

This is just my list so your program might be different. For weeks 3-5, I am supposed to have ground turkey with marinara, ground beef with avocado, eggs or egg salad, tuna and tuna salad, sugar free Jello and pudding, string cheese, and hummus. Everything should be the lowest fats possible and as soft as possible.

I don't think I ate popcorn until I was in maintenance. It takes up space and doesn't have much nutritional value, other than some Fiber. I'd save that for (much) later.

I haven't eaten ground beef in years, but I'm guessing that's OK.

Everybody's doc seems to give different guidelines, its probably best/easier to just go by what they say.

I took a look at my food logs at around 5 weeks and it looks like was eating poached/steamed chicken, steamed fish, canned oysters, cottage cheese and Protein Shakes (averaging about 400 cals a day). I believe it was Soft Foods stage for me at the time....

😋Mmmm, canned oysters you say? Oh what memories I have of delicious, delicate smoked canned oysters. I may have to indulge. Thanks for bringing it up!👌

LOL glad there's someone else out there who appreciates these things!

The fam makes a big show of how unpleasant they they think they are, and whenever I open up a can, insist that I rinse out the empty can and put it out into recycling bin in the garage immediately so as not to "stink up the place". Geez. Drama queens. 🙄

I can understand the fam's sentiments :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
