Hungry right after sleeve

Recommended Posts

Has any been experiencing being really hungry after sleeve and actually able to hold down Jello and Water? ? I’m so hungry for some reason and I thought that I would feel full quickly. It’s making the whole process really difficult that I’m feeling this hungry the day after surgery.

Most people won't feel any real restriction until they are eating more solid foods.

Are you on stomach acid reducers? It may not necessarily be hunger you are feeling but given the stomach is relatively empty the acid sometimes feels like hunger.

2 oz at a time. I was drinking Water and Protein water the next day. You might be reading thirsty as hungry.

Are you sure your hungry? Or is it Head Hunger or Acid Reflux

Try this trick and I agree with above .....DO NOT RUSH TO SOLID FOODS! Make yourself a good broth about 10 oz sip that over two hours. Make sure its a homemade or good broth, Not wallmart chicken broth! I prefer to make my own. Start with a vegetable broth - Just google it easy to make. Also cut out 10% of the Water they say to use. That will for sure stop any hunger pains, if you have them

You will learn to love broth and Soup during this phase, As you heal it tastes good and is great for you

My body has me all sorts of confused! I don’t have pain where they cut and stapled my stomach, but I’m just really sore all over in every single muscle on my body. Like I thought I felt myself actually having hunger pains yesterday morning and this morning I’m feeling like I’m hungry again. The soreness in every muscle is now the worst part of this surgery. I’m not sure if it’s from the uncomfortable bed at the hospital or what but a night at home in my bed didn’t help either. I will try some broth and see what happens. Thank you for the info!!

I was given omperazole I think it is. I always spell it wrong, Tylenol with codeine, and he said start my Vitamins and stuff again Tuesday. He said I may be so sore because when you are under anesthesia they give you something almost paralyze your and when they’re done you get something else to tense the muscles back up so they go back to normal but they tended me up so bad and it happens sometimes.

Kristen, I think you are right about your pain and the anesthesia. My doctor told me exactly what I had and how it can last a few weeks after. Google it and you will be surprised what it really does to you. Plus hormones! I hope you get to feeling better soon.

I had super strong hunger pangs for a couple weeks after being sleeved and when asking my doctor about it, I was told it wasn’t unusual to feel hunger pangs, but that they would subside over time, and they did subside.

Because the part of your stomach that secretes enzymes, that tells you you’re hungry, are removed, you might rarely feel hungry, until you’re a few years out....of at all. I’m 6 years out and I never feel hunger pangs like I did before I was sleeved. Maybe I’m a weird one or something....idk 😂😂😂😂

It seems to be getting better and I think I’m learning when my stomach doesn’t want anymore but still unsure of it. It’s a very weird process! I thought it would be much easier for my body to understand, but now I’m working harder than ever to continue to stay in tune with my new body!

I also was really, really hungry right after surgery. For me, what seemed to really help the hunger go away is when I was finally able to get enough Protein in starting at about 1-1.5 weeks after. I was having trouble at first because I totally gagged on the pre-made Protein Drinks I had tried and found fine before surgery.

My protein intake increased partly because I moved to full fluids and was able to start eating things like yogurt. I also found an unflavored Protein Powder I liked and added to pudding and broth. (Just be careful adding protein powder to hot liquids - if the liquid is too hot, the protein clumps up and gets all gross.) Now that I'm 3 months out, the unflavored protein powder is still my staple - I'm back on coffee, so I use it to make a 30 g protein latte most mornings - heaven!

Hang in there! The first few weeks after surgery can be really tough, but you'll start to feel better and find your routine soon.

Thank you for posting these, I have been soooo hungry and I’m only 3 weeks out, I am so scared to rupture my pouch! I started walking and tracking my food intake so today I am doing better but I haven’t moved the scale at all this week it is a real battle. I was really looking forward to being done with cravings.

It’s hard to not feel hungry when you aren’t eating anything. Soups and broths seem to fill me up a little better. Protein Shakes are great, but I can only do one a day and am getting sick of all the sweet stuff. I start soft foods tomorrow and am hoping that will satisfy my hunger a little better.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
