Do you think I'm full of spit?

Lol.

i was dropping DD off at daycare today, dressed to go running. Her daycarer is a large lady and her little friend Ashlyn was there too, her mother is also rather obese. They both commented "wow, wish I could get around dressed like that". Maxine asked how much I'd lost now, since she's known me for years and Renee (ashlyn's mum) asked me how I'd done it, so I told them I had a lap band.

Renee said both her MIL and SIL have lapbands, but SIL is on medication to dry up her saliva since she has a very high saliva production and her band was not working even with high restriction becuase her body just lubricated anything through and souped up everything she ate to slip through the pouch very quickly. Since starting the meds a year ago she's gotten to goal with a 55kg loss after not losing more than a couple of kilos for an entire year.

Made me reflect, not that I'm worried as I"m under my goal weight, but I wonder if that's the reason why I've been so incredibly lucky to be able to eat anything, hardly EVER PB, and not get tight. I mean I've got 3cc in my band and am not tight, can eat any food, some harder than others of course, but there's seriously nothing I cant eat, bread, pizza, cake, rice, fruit and vegetable skins, steak etc etc etc.

I wonder if I"m just full of spit?

This is very interesting. I have 10cc in my band which is only suppose to hold 11 and I can also eat anything and have never pb'b or slimed. I have been trying to talk the Dr into giving me a fill under floro to see if there is a problem. I get the feeling that he thinks Im crazy because Im losing the weight good but I have tried to tell him that Im losing because Im doing what Im suppose to and not because my band is keeping me from eating things or amounts that I shouldnt. Dont get me wrong the band does help me control the amount that it takes for me to be satisfied, but I want it to really let me know that its there. Just the other day I was eating a tuna kit for lunch and was thinking that if maybe I didnt use the mayo packet that it would stay in my pouch longer or at least be a little more of a challenge to eat, especially the crackers. Im going to search the net to see if I can find anything on excessive saliva. This may be tmi but now that I think about it, my kids always laugh at me when I talk because they always say that I spit when I talk. This is something to look into.

That is very interesting! I am having my 6 month band anniversary today and I have lost nearly 70lbs! Woohooo for me! I can also eat just about anything and in rather large quantities. Granted I have only had 2 fills and don't have much restriction, but the whole spit thing makes a lot of sense to me. I figure that this is a good thing so long as we all commit to a life of healthy choices and moderation with exercise. I am not complaining.

Wow, we have a theory forming here! I've lost weight successfully and with not much difficulty but I can eat more and way more variety than most bandsters, and always have been able to. I've always had to rely a lot on willpower to not eat when I get the urge because I could. All the band does for me is make me get full quickly, but I've also always been able to eat and drink together and NEVER found it made a difference to staying full, because food seems to move through my pouch pretty quickly.

Yet its worked, so who's complaining. I mean I'm maintaining now and I dont have to be super restricted to do it.

I'm full of spit, too. :( I've got a mouth like a Newfoundland dog! :omg: It's a real problem for my dentist because he has to work in his rain gear. :rain::faint: And I have also been able to swallow just about every food group with no grief after each and everyone of my fills. In fact, I suspect it is for this reason that I ended up getting myself too tight and landing myself with acid reflux. :P Thanks to the damn reflux I have been defilled since the beginning of August. blehh! :)

Happily for me, I did get to goal weight and then I lost another 5 lbs :clap2: but I do worry about the weight sneaking back on now that I am defilled. :girl_hug:

I have a similar problem, but a different effect. I have a lot of mucus from allergies/sinus issues and it clogs my stoma. That is why I only have .6cc and still have a lot of restriction. I guess mucus is thicker than saliva?? I do have a nasal spray that is supposed to decrease the mucus, but I still have plenty-believe me! I try to drink lots of fluids to thin the mucus, but it doesn't seem to help. Hmmmmmm......

Well, its not something I ever noticed about myself - but I wondered, lol. Its like I was saying to the doctor about my son's asthma - you cant ask him if he feels normal because to him normal IS hardly able to breathe kind of thing. If you had more spit than the next person, you wouldnt really know that would you?

Anyway, I guess spit happens.

Bwhahaha!! That's funny!

I've never heard this theory before but it makes sense I guess.

<O:p</O:p

I wonder how they figured it out and what kind of medication would make you have less saliva? Any type of cold or allergy medication would just dry up your sinuses.<O:p</O:p

This is exactly my situation. Im more than convinced now that there is something to this. Im going to try to ask the Dr if he has heard anything about it, but Im sure I will just get the blank stare that he has been giving me. The thing is, he is not the great Dr that did my surgery. He left the practice and his patients wasnt made aware of where he went, I guess in fear that they would follow, which I would. But anyway, I was just talking to my mom about how I feel that my band has worked more because I have had the willpower to make it and Im afraid that Im going to lose that willpower and start gaining weight. I made her promise that if she starts to notice me gaining that she would tell me this time and not allow me to get to the way I was.

I don't know anything about having too much spit, but the title of your thread made me LOL!

If you look at it really quickly "Do you think I'm full of spit?"

You realize what it looks like it says right? :pound:<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

I find though that while I had to work to lose weight - as does anyone really - I cant eat enough to gain. I mean when I say I can eat more than most bandsters, I'm talking 3/4 to 1 cup. I cant eat anything like what I used to and over time my habits and tastes have changed and certain foods like pizza give me enough trouble that I just dont even like them anymore. And I run four or five times a week and that helps heaps.

So I dont fear regaining and I really think that where the band comes to the fore is with weight maintenance. I mean, a huge proportion of people here have lost large amounts of weight before and regained it, THAT is where the band is really going to help, to keep weight off for a lifetime.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
