I can not be the only out here who still has no clue how to cook small! I swear I am either dumber then a bag of hammers or just can not contemplate portion. Every time i Prep or cook for myself I end up throwing out over half. I just cleaned the fridge and there were so much wasted food.

I Prep for two teenagers separate cooking and nothing ever left. I prep for myself and way over cook. You would think at about a year I would figure this stuff out? Nope

So the lesson to all you about to do this, Shock and awe is coming on how much you can consume and how little you need to survive!

I've tried to come to terms with my food waste but it's still out of control . I'm still working on it at almost 3 yrs post op. Yesterday I bought an entire bag of Cookies for one serving and when I tried to toss the remainder, my BF was appalled.

I think the problem is I grew up in a large family so I only learned to cook for medium to large groups. I can only seem to cook small if it's a single piece of prepackaged fish 😂, but if I can will eat the same meal until its done.

The ONLY thing I have mastered is salvaging and freezing fruit on the brink of rotting. My freezer is filled with smoothie ready ingredients I'll get to this summer and luckily my teens can actually cook so that burden is *mostly* lifted... whew

I hear ya! I think I am going to cook up a small pan of veggie Soup, and it ends up being a huge pot! Same with stir fry, cooked Cereal, spaghetti sauce. I guess the good thing is I have to eat the same thing every day for a while so it doesn't go to waste, and that helps with Portion Control. Nothing like a little boredom to reduce volume and stop eating sooner.

Make your freezer & your microwave your friend. I understand your dislike of reheated meals but as a single person I regularly ate the same meal for a a couple of days in a row. Better than wasting food (which is a terrible thing in society today). Less expensive too.

I often freeze cooked meals in single serves & then only have to prep fresh veges. Very handy for those nights when you’re too exhausted to cook a healthy meal. Way better than take out too. I also buy meats in small amounts or repackage it into single portions at home.

I loved reading everyone's reply to this. My husband is going on deployment soon and I am worried about food waste. I feel like most recipes will last me at least 4-5 days if not more but I also hate eating the same food all the time. I will definitely take the advice given in this thread into account.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
