Hi Friends,

I am almost 7 weeks post VSG. At this point I eat solid food that I chew thoroughly. According to instruction package that I got from my doctor, my portions should be between 1/4 and 1/2 a cup at this point. This amount of food doesn’t satisfy me... I can eat more.
When I asked my nutritionist, she said that I should eat as much as I need to feel satisfied and that it varies from person to person. I struggle with that answer because I don’t want to stretch my pouch somehow.
I measure everything in 4-6 oz portions and do not go over, BUT I WANT TO.......Can I eat more? Someone told me that our pouch can only hold 4 oz of food.

What are your thoughts on this?

Depends on the food for example Soup goes right thru so you can eat alot more soup - Now take a 4oz steak and that will not pass - I would not be to concerned about volume i focus on the calories and specs of food

Eat healthy and the shakes will fill you up, hard to get used to eating so little but you will

Hey Newbie

I'm 9 weeks out from VSG. I eat about a 1/2 cup and usually feel full. Occasionally I may still feel hunger and will add a veggie to my Protein. That usually does it for me. I tend to feel more satisfied if I eat chicken vs yogurt, cottage cheese or other soft foods. I think the heavy protein helps me. Always be sure to get your protein in and drink 64 oz.

Your pouch actually can hold about 10 oz when fully healed, not that you need to fill it, but it can hold a bit more. Good luck!

I am at about 1/4-1/2 cup of food, and I do 2:1 Protein and veggies so I can fill up quickly. I get 64-72oz of Water a day now, too. I'm almost 7 weeks out, so... it's really dependent on your body and what it needs, but follow your dietitian's guidelines. :) You got this.

My doctor said to increase an additional 1/4 cup every 3 months. So at 14 weeks, I am over the 1/4 cup I began at, depending on the time of day and what I am eating. You will be at 1 cup at 1 year and THE REST OF YOUR LIFE! No bread until 4 months out. Beans is later because no skins. Pasta after 4 months or later. Follow the book your doctor gave you.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
