I Got the RNY bypass and have not had one issue. No dumping. No allergic reactions. No change in tastes and lost a lot of weight and 10lbs from goal.

there are slightly more potential complications with the bypass, but complications on either surgery aren't common, and most are minor and easily "fixable". Many of us have never had any complications at all. It was the gold standard for a long time, and there's a ton of long-term research on it. Surgical techniques have improved greatly over the years, so problems they used to have years ago rarely occur anymore. As long as you're diligent about your Vitamins (even moreso than with the sleeve), you'll likely be fine. A lot of people are afraid of it because they move your small intestine - but cutting out 80% of your stomach and throwing it in the trash is pretty radical, too. Since you have acid reflux, I would definitely go for it. Uncontrolled, severe reflux can be VERY dangerous. You're likely dealing with a more dangerous complication now than you would by getting a bypass.
Thank you I'm scared. Like you said, me and my intestines are a team! Not looking forward to chopping them up. That's why I chose the sleeve. Damn!!! Ugh

I just revised from sleeve to bypass 8 weeks ago. Like you I was afraid if the. Bypass. I got the sleeve early 2018 ended up with large hernia and gerd.
now that I have the bypass, I am very happy with it. As long as you keep up with having bloodwork checked, take your Vitamins and eat healthy, there is nothing to fear from the bypass.
you have to do this or deal with cancer. There is no other option.
Please make peace with it so that you can get healthy. You will be glad that you did it I once it is behind you. My only regret is that I did not start out with bypass and avoid having surgery twice.
hang in there and come here for support. Please keep us updated as well. You got this.
Dude, lol....I got the lapband first. The sleeve was supposed to be my salvation. It really works so well! I just can't deal with this pain and fire anymore. I can be in a dead sleep, wake up with acid in my mouth, I run to the toilet to spit it up, and then my gag reflex kicks in. So much burning!

Having any op is scary but when you have an experienced surgeon it shouldn’t be something you need to fear. Living with a bypass is fine. I feel like a perfectly normal person except I eat smaller portions and I’m now officially skinny! To me a bypass was far less scary than a sleeve and you already had that. You need to do everything you can to avoid cancer.
I love my surgeon ️ Monalisa Misra, she is amazing, caring and so experienced. My Lapband surgeon is a piece of $#!T.....Milton Owens.....

Exactly where I was before revising to bypass. I would wake up with acidic Fluid flowing from nose and mouth. Very, very painful indeed.

What are you afraid of with gastric bypass?

I had bypass in Nov 2015 and haven’t had a single complication at all. I’ve maintained over 140 lbs of weight loss and it was the best decision I’ve made.

According to my surgeon, despite there being a few more “connections” involved, the bypass is not that dissimilar from the sleeve procedure. The amount of time in surgery is the same, the risks are the same, the recovery time is the same etc. I just went through the bypass on 12/2. Speaking for myself, I had really bad GERD prior to surgery and absolutely none since!

Yeah they don't actually chop or remove any intestines they bypass some of it.

So the channel from your stomach to your lower intestines is different that's all...

I'm sorry to hear about your cancer scare! Do the Bypass! If the doctor tells you it'll get rid of the issue altogether then go for it! I understand about being scared as I was scared of even doing weight loss surgery because I'd heard horror stories. But, I had also heard good things. Most people I know had Gastric Bypass and that was the one I was interested in, but my doctor told me I needed to DS or Loop DS for maximum weight loss so... I had the Loop DS despite the fact that the only two people I know who had it had issues. One had a malnutrition issue that nearly killed him, while the other was fine for a year going from 420 pounds to 190, but in the following year she lost another 100 pounds and was hospitalized because she was only 90 pounds and couldn't put the weight back on to be healthy. So yeah, I'm terrified that I'll end up with issues later on since both of theirs happened after the first year, but I'm trying not to think about it since I'm not even a month out since my surgery. I'll worry about it later. I wish you the best of luck!

I have the sleeve. I had great success with it. However, I was having significant acid reflux. I went to my surgeon (I let it slide for a long time) Now I am being told that my acid is so bad that I am around 6mo out from cancer..... Barrett's esophagus. I'm really afraid of the bypass. I never wanted it. But she said if I don't get it, I am on the road to cancer. I have three lesions in my esophagus and I am inflamed. The example of the color of my esophagus was.... Healthy, the pink part of a nail bed....Me....USC MAROON. Also, after my endoscopy, my surgeon put me in to operate. That was a week before I spoke to her in person. She said it was better to book surgery and have me opt out. I'm scared. I know I need it. I wake up with my throat on fire, vomiting. Please, can someone help me make peace with the gastric bypass??

I am in the same situation as you. I feel the same way too, I don't want to do it. I actually canceled my surgery that was scheduled Feb 26th. Now they are not taking appointments due to the surgeon being under quarantine !

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
