congrats! St Mary's has good support every month on the 2nd monday and each 3 thursday. I have only been to two of them, but need to go more often. Mondays are just not a good day for me.

good luck with your band. I got the band Dec. 10 and have lost 25 lbs. I wish I could loose more each week. I want to hurry up and loose 50 more lbs. I have to be patient. I have really been doing good except the exercise. I just started twice a week for about 30 minutes. I have to work my way up.

take care and enjoy,

Jeannette

HI! I too live in Virginia, and Dr. Terracina is doing my surgery.

illdeal, I live in Chesapeake, so I'm really close to you! :-) How have things gone since your surgery? Were you happy with their office? How long from seminar to surgery did you have to wait?

I have just started my process. I did seminar two weeks ago, am doing my psych eval today, and have gotten all my insurance paperwork together. I already got pre approval. Waiting on final. I'm excited, but scared! I guess that's normal. I'm afraid I wont wake up. :-(

Hello all Virginians!

Mammie How are you doing? Are you on mushie foods now? Are you walking around and getting back to your routine? I felt after surgery it was very easy to get to that step! Keep us posted.

luvmy2dogs I love your screen name! I love mine too!!!! What kind of dogs do you have? I have a golden retreiver and a mutt we adopted.

How is your process coming? did you get a date yet? The process is not that difficult at all. I have bcbs fed, it went well with the approval process.

suzanne how are you doing after your fill? Are you having problems with any foods? Let me know if you ever want to get together or talk on the phone. Do you work outside the home? In Spotys? I met a person on here that realized she new me from our line of work. I was a bit worried because I did not tell many people. Only a few people at work know and a few friends. maybe someday I will get brave and spill the Beans. I just did not want everyone watching every bite or my weight loss. It is not Gastric Bypass and the weight loss is slow, like many other "diets".

chica what day of the month is the support group at Potomac Hospital? Maybe I will try to go there since it is closer to me. Let me know if you plan to go.

playball how are you feeling? I know you must be nervous, but all will be GREAT. On Saturday you won't beleive it is over and you have arived in bandland! It is like when you have a baby and all that planning and bamb, it is over! Keep us posted.

Well, I have been struggling. I can't recall who posted about the data on gaining weight back. I think the only way to do that is to stop getting fills and totally eating the old way. if you have a fill, you can't really eat. However, after saying that, it is like any other diet and you can eat around the band, eating bad stuff, even a little can hurt. this is where I am now. I am in that 7 mth slump! I need to get back on the wagon and exercise...keep saying it, not sure why I can't just do it! I don 't want to discourage all you newbies, because I am happy with the band, but the docs are all right that it is a tool you must follow a program too!!

sorry for the Lonnnnnnnnng post, haven't posted in a while.

Hi Janine,

I know that they now have 2 groups per month -- I think the first and third Thursday. I believe it's on the website for Potomac Hospital. I don't know if I'll be going back there because I've switched bariatric doctors now that I found out the my insurance has an exclusion for any WLS surgery. I'm going to have to self-pay and am going to Dr. Pinnar in Reston. They're farther away, but give a little discount if you're self-paying and can qualify for the surgical center rather than the hospital (no overnight stay required). So I imagine I'll go to his support groups from here on in...

Welcome to Lapband Talk. This is the most informative site for this procedure that you could ever possibly imagine. Just look around through it and will find out just about anything you ever needed or wanted to know. I am going to Commonwealth Surgeons Group and so far things are going well. I was just approved by insurance and have received my surgeru date of May 14th. It took me 9 months to get here. Insurance is a real bite. But the finally came around after I filed an appeal. If I can awswer any questions from this far just let me know.

Susie

Hello all you Virginians. I have been MIA for a while, just busy.

Iam61157 Welcome! I live north of you in Stafford. I had my band surgery in June 07 at St. Mary's. My doctor is Dr. Batista at Commonwealth Surgeons. I really had a great experience. I know others who went to the Richmond group, at St. Mary's too. I think they are both good. I did not choose Mary Washington because they had been out of the weight loss surgery for some time. From what I understand they stopped their program which then only included gastric bypass due to some bad experiences. I am not sure if the program is yet Certified or considered a special center, I can't recall the correct title that St. Mary's is. I knew several woman who went to Commonwealth surgeons and felt their experience was all postive. Dr. Batista is a surgeon, so his pesonality isn't always warm and fuzzy. but at the hospital I think he was excellent. I am happy with all the office staff. the only thing I can see now for new patients is that they need another surgeon! they are busy.

Susie...great you got a date. What is your insurance? I have BC BS federal and had no problems. but I know some can be difficult. Good luck with your journey. May 14, wow, a month. you will be so happy.

Hello to the rest of you guys out there if u all have been sleeping like me!!

Iam61157 I agree that you need to go where it feels good. I started the journey in late 2006, December or January 07. So, Mary Wash was really not up and going full force or I did not know anyone to give me a referral. I like to talk to others who dealt with it first hand.

my port is in the middle of my stomach, below my breast area. I dont have problems sleeping any way. I never was a stomach sleeper so I dont know if that causes any discomfort.

I will be happy to answer any questions. Good luck

HOW IS EVERYONE DOING??? I have not been on the thread for while and see no one else has either! hopefully you are all on other threads that are supporting you.

I have been struggling with exercise, which in my past I enjoyed. Not sure what is going on in my head! I finally reached below 190 which is exciting for I had been stuck for several months. I hope I can keep going down!

hope to hear from you soon!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
