January 2020 Surgery Date

Recommended Posts

I have surgery tomorrow. I am scheduled for the afternoon. I wish it was for the morning. I am to report to surgery at 3pm. They said they may call me in early. I am packing tonight. Cleaning house again today. Washing sheets. Our 4 month old is also staying in the hospital with us so I am packing for him also. I have been on an all clear liquid diet for 48 hours and OMG it has cleaned me out!!! I also have a really bad headache tonight. We also got surprise guest that said they will be passing through either tonight or early morning :/ I don’t want to be rude but I hope they make there visit fast. I have kept my surgery private. So yea just a little nervous for surgery this is my first surgery and I just don’t know what to expect.
Good luck everyone. I will try to update or answer any questions after surgery once I can wake up properly.

Sleeve surgery a week from today (20 Jan). Been on pre-op liquid diet since 8 Jan. Not as bad as I anticipated.

My big complaint is that I have to be at the hospital at 0530. Wish I could sleep a bit longer.

Same with me, I will be picked up for my surgery at 0530. Let us know how you are doing. 💙

Good luck to everyone going in this week, like me (Wednesday). 😊 my insurance finally approved me Friday afternoon and I had my pre-op hospital admissions and testing done today.

Great hearing the updates from those who already had their surgeries this month...It’s definitely helping to calm my nerves some!

I do wish I had a time for Wednesday, they will call me tomorrow after 5 pm and tell me when to report. I go on Clear Liquids after dinner tonight and then NPO after midnight tomorrow which isn’t bad at all. ( 🤞🏻 to score an early time but with my luck I’ll be the last surgery of the day, haha. )

I was thinking the same thing, no guests today. Also being a private person, you don't have to explain why you don't want company. I wish you could say that you are under the weather.

In addition to the ab binder and sippy cups, one of those gel ice packs from Walgreens or cvs-the large one that’s made for the back. Put it on your belly a couple times each day and it also helps reduce the swelling and bloating tremendously. Make sure the gasX is chewable or the small blue pill. The rapidmelts don’t really work. This vsg was the best decision I’ve ever made. I’m one week post op and almost all swelling and bloating is gone, thanks to the ab binder and ice pack. Without the ab binder scale was dropping one pound per day. With ab binder and ice pack, scale dropping 3 pounds each day, consistently. No need to be nervous. Just be prepared and you’ll have smooth sailing.

You can make your own refreezable ice pack with a gallon freezer bag. Fill it with 3 cups of Water and 1 cup of rubbing alcohol and then just put it in the freezer. Make two so you can always have one ready to go while you are using the other one.

My sleeve surgery is 1/22/2020! I've been feeling fine about it and very ready (for years lol), but just yesterday I just got so nervous. Being in my 20s, I'm scared that life will be insanely different and harder being so strict forever.

Good luck to all the January bunch who have surgery this week! I can't wait to hear how everyone is doing. [emoji3590]
My surgery is still 2 weeks away, so I started my pre-op diet today which is much, much milder than most of the pre-op diets I've read about on here. My diet includes small, healthy, high Protein, low fat meals, no high- sugar fruits, refined carbs, sodas, etc., then fasting after 8pm the day before surgery. It's interesting how doctors have so many different guidelines!
Congrats Jeslpayn on losing 10 lbs in 2 weeks! [emoji4]

I'm on my two week pre-op too and it's the same. I can eat mostly normal, just no carbs, alcohol, or high fat foods.

Thanks for letting me know your pre-op diet. I'm glad to hear mine is the same as others.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
