December 2019 Sleeves

Recommended Posts

I had my appt with the dietician today and got my 2 weeks worth of Protein Shakes. I start my preop diet on 12/2 and surgery is 12/16. I’m feeling all kinds of emotions. Anxiety, nervousness, not knowing if I’m making the right decision, then being super excited and can’t wait for the surgery. I’m assuming everyone goes through a touch of this...maybe?

@JediMom at this point I'm just excited. I have no doubt that will change. My surgery is 12/12 and I do tend to think little about big changes until the last minute lol. I'm sure that's totally normal. What are your biggest concerns?

Hi y'all. Newbie here, but I have been lurking, and reading, and learning. My sleeve date is December 2nd. I start my one week liquid diet next Tuesday, so I get to drink broth and Jello for Thanksgiving! haha!

I am super excited and very terrified at the same time. When I got my date set I had a mini panic attack. I was freaking out if I was doing the right thing or not.

I am 52 years old, I am ready for this journey, and am ready to be healthy and lose 100 pounds.

We're being sleeved the same day. Keep in touch on how you feel afterwards. It'll be good to compare notes.

Hi everyone I was just approved for VSG. I’m waiting on a call back from my surgeon with the official surgery date. I am looking to have it done the second weeks of December. I am so nervous and scared and excited!!! I also keep second guessing myself and thinking if I’ll chicken out and just not do it. I really really really want this done because at this point there is nothing I have not tried to loose the weight. I am scared of failing I guess. I’ve lost almost 20lbs since I began my appts to get this done. I am on a daily injection to suppress my appetite which was a big contributor.

If you are a fellow December surgery let’s lean on each other throughout our recovery!
I go to my last weight loss visit on Tuesday and I have my pre-OP and post-OP classes the same day. I'm hoping to get my surgery in December. Will keep you updated

I'm starting my pre-op diet on Monday, but my surgeon said to enjoy a little bit of Thanksgiving dinner. Sweet...

December 2nd here we come.

Mine is scheduled for Dec 2nd. I'm so excited! This forum is great, plus I've watched so many YouTube videos - they are super helpful (even the "wish I hadn't done it" few.) Am on the pre-surgery high Protein liquid diet which my surgeon has his patients continue for at least another four weeks post. Don't mind it at all, luckily. Like the green smoothie from Dr. Vuong - but I only add two small frozen pineapple chunks to avoid the blended fruit = sugar problem. I'm looking forward to seeing how we do here on this thread. Good luck, everyone!

I’m just worried about having any complications afterwards. I told my managers I’m having surgery but have not disclosed what it is. HR knows since I have to complete FMLA forms to cover my leave. I’m getting more excited now that the days are going by. 2 1/2 weeks until surgery for me

Hi hi.. mine is on December 1.. I'm pretty nervous about it and got pre-OP anxiety .. I'm very afraid of general anaesthesia ..eventhough deep down I know it's nothing.. like everyone has been telling me It's like dreaming.. and I am afraid of pain and complications too .. like gallbladder stones.. I mean I'm only 24.. well ,soon to be 25 lolol (my bd is on december too😁) just thinking about removing my GB at such young age scares me a lot...but overall I think it's worth it ; to have a healthy body and dress pretty too, not just some oversized sh..t😅 plus no more of those people judging you when you pass🤦

If you think about the results it's worth it... that's what I'm telling my self too🤓

hope it goes well for all of us😍

Good luck. My VSG surgery date is 11/27/19. So far your date is the closest to mine that I have found. Maybe we will be a good support source for one another. At least we will be on the same week going forward.

Being sleeved on 12/2. I'm 66 yo and heavy all of my life...so it's a totally different mindset that I'll have to deal with. I've always been a food junkie (not junk food)...have been to some of the best restaurants in the world (good memories for sure) and only need one channel for entertainment on TV (Food Network, duh...). I also am a part-owner in a winery which will be very hard to limit future consumption.

Positive is that my wife is being sleeved the next week...so at least we won't have issues with smelling food cooking, etc. Misery loves company -- but so does success.

Good luck everyone.

Good luck to both of you. My surgery date is 11-27-19, we will all be close to the same week going forward

Hello. I’m new. This is my 1st time posting. I’m having my sleeve surgery Dec 18th. I’ve had all my clearance done & just have some seminars to attend, but I’ll admit it...I’m nervous.

Im 45, so food and I have had a good run. I have a 5 year old son I want to stick around for. I need some support. I have to start my liver cleanse soon, but I just feel like this is my last hurrah. I have a list called “my last suppers” of things I want to eat before surgery.

I’m from NJ, so if anyone wants to meet up for a friend group - I can get on board for that.

Good luck. I did the same thing (food funeral) last week during the beginning of my two week diet. I'm 41 years old and feel like food and me have had a good run too... Which even more validates that it is time to do something in my mind. I'm winding it up now, and will be going for my vsg surgery Wednesday. Been following the diet fairly carefully. I just keep telling myself that this is not the last time I can have the things I love to eat, it's just the last time I am going to eat too much of the foods I love, and that overall it is just time to change.

Hi again everyone.. so my surgeon and I made a decision for me to go under sleeve-plus gasterectomy which I did 4 days ago.. phew...im not gonna lie cuz boy it hurts... ;-;

6 small incisions are on my tummy now... 😅

it's a sleeve surgery+ small surgery on my small intestine.. which my surgeon is happy about cuz he thinks that way is better for a woman in my age than a total mal-absorptive surgery like bypass.. mine is a hypo-absorptive I'm 4 days post OP.

First 3 days were awful.. i was in the hospital, in a boring vip room with no help of my fam cuz they had work to do till 3 pm everyday.. staring blankly at the walls, falling asleep and waking up.. i even peed my self and couldn't even tell the nurse cuz I was so shy.. i cleaned up ; changed up all by my self.. stupid I know...

well um I even rewatched a season of 'friends' series lol that helped me a bit but I'm not gonna recommend it till you get discharged because your tummy is gonna hurt when you laugh and watching friends you can't stop laughing lolol 😂😂

Day 0-3 : I was in a lot of pain cuz of laparoscopy gas. I felt numb on

My legs ( and still do and get tired easily now)

Now it's almost day 5 for me.. I'm on a liquid diet.. I feel better as days go on.. tbh I have regretted going under the surgery in first 4 days (well not currently cuz I recently got acetaminophen infusion and I'm in no pain lol) but overall I think I and maybe we; should look at what made us make such a decion.. ofcourse it's gonna cost us something like idk liquid diet (which sucks!) -_- but it will be worth it.. we should keep looking at our goal.. we're doing this for our health.. no less♡😊

So how is everyone else doing?🤗

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
