What will you eat for Thanksgiving??

Recommended Posts

For those of us in the Mushies stage have you decided what you will eat tomorrow?

Curious how everyone is planning on handling this huge feast of overeating and enormous calorie ladien foods...we have all grown accustomed too!!

Whisk together one package of fat free/sugar free instant vanilla pudding mix and one can of evaporated skimmed milk. Place in the fridge for five minutes to soft set. Then, beat in one 15 oz. can of pure pumpkin and one tablespoon of pumpkin pie spice. Spoon into bowls or ramkins, top with 1 to 2 tablespoons of fat frr cool whip and refridgerate for at least 10 more minutes. makes six 1/2 cup servings (each serving is 1.5 weight watcher points). It tastes WONDERFUL!:hungry:

I am no longer in mushies either...and the timing of my banding was not to where the holidays were an issue. But my SIL and I were banded together, and last year she had a fill right before Thanksgiving.

This was NOT calorie concious, but it fit the mushie requirements of easy digestion following the fill. She ate a small helping of mashed potatoes, and blended some turkey, gravy and stuffing in the blender, and thinned it with broth and used it as gravy. It upped the Protein using the meat in it, and she said it tasted great.

She ate part and shared part with my infant grandson at the time--they both liked it!

I did the same thing with roast beef when I was on mushies.

She also ate the bitsy bites of pumpkin pie with FF/SF coolwhip.

Be cautious not only with the texture for mushies, but also the richness compared to what you have been eating---you don't want to upset your stomach.

The best suggestion I have, is to take it V e r y slowly. A small bite here and visit, and a small bite there and visit---make sure it is settling as you go, as opposed to suddenly realizing it is not going to work.

Just imagine where you will be next Thanksgiving!!! I personally would not have believed it if you had told me I'd be here!!

You may not eat like you used to, but your health thanks you---and it IS worth it!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Kat

Hi Kat:

You are one of the reasons I know I can do this, I have read your other posts on here over the past few months and I am amazed at your accomplishments, and since I am wanting to lost so much, I am always happy to hear the true 100 pound plus success stories.

I know I can do this......and because of people like yourself that have gone before me.....to help lead the way!!

Thanks for your encouragement.

I am not at all hungry nor worried about tomorrow....just am curious how folks will be handling it.

Thanksgiving marks my 4 week Bandiversary! I'm on my second week of mushies.

All the good soft stuff is loaded with fats and sugars. So I'm making the sweet potatoes and green bean caserole this year with low fat low sugar everything to help me out.

I plan on mashing up some white meat turkey 2oz or so.

1/4 c yams & 1/4 c of green Beans and sauce (no crispy onions and mashed up)

I'll have a 1/4 of the LF pumpkin pie filling for desert and that's all I plan on.

Lord help me!

I am not in the mushy phase but I plan on having very very small portions of whatever I want to enjoy. I will stay away from the sweets just because they are my downfall. I have pretty good restriction right now so I am not really that worried about it.

I just started mushies today so I am going to find tomorrow a pleasure.

I plan on 2 oz of turkey, 1/2 cup of sweet potato, 1/2 cup butternut squash and a splash of gravy 1tbsp. I am trying to follow the Stage 2 Diet to the "T". I will also save my fruit for a little pumpkin pie filling with a little of whip cream. I will look forward to the left overs.

I agree, that I will need to take it slow as to ensure that my stomach does not get upset. Today it has been a little unsettled with its new foods. I also found I was a little more hungry today than I had noticed in the last 2 weeks. It must be the fact that I had 2x the Protein with the Protein shakes during the liquid stage of the plan and now it is much lower. I will need to add some unjury to my food to get enough in.

Good luck everyone!

Cindy

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
