So absolutely disapointed

"Just curious, has anyone else been told that they had a fatty liver, but their surgeon went ahead with the surgery anyway?"

Yes, that's me, Tishbite - banded on 20.11 in Israel despite elevated liver enzymes. My GP was all ready to pull the plug, but that night, my surgeon called and said " so you have a fatty liver - what do you expect at your weight - that's just another reason to have the surgery!". I was scheduled to have a pre-op ultrasound of my stomach the next day, so my GP phoned the technician and asked him to make a pass over my liver, too. When the results came back with no abnormalities except for the aforementioned fatty liver, my GP gave me the green light. I hope everything gets straightened out for you over there - good luck!

My surgeon canceled my surgery for Monday. Looks like I won't be a "November Nymph" after all.

:cry

Sorry to hear that Tish... what did the results show?

You'll always be a nymph even if it's not a November one!! :clap2: :clap2:

Tishbite, I'm so sorry to hear of your cancellation. I know the whole affair just broke your heart. Hand in there, we are all praying for you. You may still have you band, just not right away. Keep your chin up.

Thank you all for your support and your kind words!

The only results back from the lab show that my liver enzymes have lowered minimally. I saw the GI doctor on Wednesday and had a whole new set of blood work drawn for more specialized tests. He will not give the go ahead until he has received all of the test results, which will probably be on Monday or Tuesday. In turn, my PCP will not give her consent until the GI doctor gives his blessing. I explained the situation to my surgeon today and he couldn't believe that they were being so conservative. He said that it is probably Fatty Liver Disease, no big surprise there, and originally just wanted to push the surgery back to the last one for the day. Given that there are so many hands in the pot, so to speak, he rescinded that idea and thought it was best to cancel the surgery outright and to reschedule when I get the green light.

It's all for the best I suppose, especially since my "monthly visitor" decided to pay a visit today! LOL! I just have to keep telling myself that it's in God's hands and it will happen when it is His time!...and He keeps reminding me in little ways!

I will keep you guys posted and continue to read your wonderful stories and advice! Keep up the great work everyone!

Aww, Tish - that sucks. I'm really sorry to hear that. You have to keep us updated as to when you get banded! Hang around, though - we'd miss you here.

Here's the update...after all of the bloodletting there isn't anything wrong with my liver, other than she's a lard ass (yes SHE..her name is Olivia :D). Thank heaven! My doctor FINALLY faxed over the consent today, two days late of course. So now I'm in limbo...I have to reschedule and mentally re-prepare myself. I'll let you all know when my new date will be. I hope you don't mind if I continue to tag along in the November group...I feel kind of funny barging in on the "Merry Losers."

Thanks again to all of you for all of the moral support that you've given to me and for sharing your stories. You guys are the best!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
