Getting closer everyday my mind is kind of set on RNY but been seeing some good numbers I vsg lately...

Thought I'd ask first hand how people recovered after surgery? Did your hunger go away? Was there much restriction?

What are people losing say 6 month post op?

I think VSG is less invasioe and easier recovery??

Tnx

I had the vsg 6/27. The first 3 days I was in excruciating pain. By far the most painful surgery I have had. Everyone talks about the gas pain but it was way more than just gas. I could barely get any fluids down. But I am happy to say that day 4 I started to feel so much better and now I feel back to normal. I have lost 13 lbs since surgery.

I can only speak for vsg, asthis is the procedure I had. My recovery was not easy. I had a hard time getting fluids in. I had fluids 2x to help me along my recovery. The pain was just awful for about 10 days, but thank God for the pain medication.

I have no hunger like before surgery. I do however get an ache in my stomach, but it doesn't last long and I'm not sure if it's related to hunger.

I am 4.5 months post-op and still have a good amount of restriction. I can eat about a cup of food now and can tolerate almost all foods. I however try and eat Protein first before vegetables and fruit. I find it can be a slippery slope, because I'm afraid I could probably graze every 3 hours, so I really have to be mindful of what I eat. I'm not sure if this is also true of gastric bypass?

I said I would never do gastric bypass, but we will see what the future holds about a possible conversion. My Dr wanted me to do the DS for the best outcome to prevent my diabetes from returning. I'm not sure what the future holds, but I'm losing very slow right now and it concerns me.

I hope you make the best choice for yourself!

Good luck!

Sorry to hear you when through so much trouble in my mind I think RNY bypass is more restrictive and has better long term numbers

I had a Vsg but personally know people that had bypass. From what I have seen the folks that have had bypass recover a little easier plus they tend to lose a bit more weight.

I chose the Vsg because I was not comfortable having an inaccessible part of my stomach left in my body. Plus I was not comfortable with the malabsorption aspect if rny.

Nothing gets removed with rny so it makes sense that recovery may be a bit easier. In the end it comes down to which one you are more comfortable with.

Good luck and do keep us posted.

It seems like the sleeve is the new gold standard of many surgeons unless the sleeve will cause gerd... That's what my surgeon told me.. Hope this helps....

I had the RNY 3 months ago and am very pleased. I never feel hunger the way I did before surgery, although I do feel when it is time for nutrition. Just no hunger pangs. My diabetes went away. I have reduced my blood pressure meds, I'm moving better, and feel great. My GERD has also gone away. I wanted RNY and not sleeve.

people say that VSG is "less invasive", but removing 80% of your stomach seems pretty "invasive" to me. ...

My dr doesn’t do bypass anymore so sleeve was only option. I was only uncomfortable the first day. I wouldn’t even call it pain. Only took what pain med they gave me in the hospital. Took Tylenol once home. I’ve had two previous surgeries (gall bladder and hysterectomy) and this was easiest by far.

I still had hunger for the first few weeks until I started on more dense food. Then the restriction really kicked in and I don’t really get too hungry anymore. I’m almost 7 months out and I’ve lost 75 lbs. I’m very pleased overall.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
