What age range was he in?

My moment was with my dentist. He said... if you were MY mother, I would do X procedure. At least he didn’t say I could be his grandmother.

He was late 20's or early 30's. He also called me "Sir," but people did that when I reached 40 or so.

I've lost three pounds over the past week, which concerns me a bit. I contacted my nutritionist, and she said I should target 1,700 to 1,800 calories, which sounds awfully high. She suggested I do it by increasing healthy carbs. I just hope I can actually eat that much in one day.

Peanut or nut butters add calories quick.

So I think my body is weird. I have been at over 1000 calories since August and still dropped a few pounds. September was closer to 1100-maybe 1300. The past few weeks I’ve been bumping up to 1300-1500 with 40% carbs (it was so scary to do that) and I have lost 1-2 pounds in the past month. It has been so much easier to eat more. I can now eat an egg, slice of cheese and 1 cup of cooked spinach in 10-15 minutes and usually finish that. I can drink 16 oz of a Protein Shake in less than 30 minutes vs it took me an hour to do that 1-2 months ago.
Regarding exercise I only go to the gym 2x week but I’m pretty active at home and work so I am usually getting 7-10k steps on non gym days.
Even though I am purposely eating more than I desire to slow down weight loss/maintain I do worry that I’m creating bad habits like eating when I don’t feel like it. If I’m busy at work I will go only have 250 calories and suddenly it’s 3pm and I’ve had nothing else. No I’m not eating Cookies or chips but I am purposely eating high calorie foods.
I do feel like I’m in control of things now. A few months ago I felt like I didn’t and was loosing too fast.

We are in Canberra. We lived here from 2014 to 2017 and fell in love with it!

Never got to see the more inland parts of Australia (we stayed and visited mostly along the coast), but I hear its beauuuutiful. Time to enjoy life down there! You may even pick up the awesome accent :)

I suspect that as you get further along you'll see that it may not be as high as you think, nor as difficult. I'm a good 6 inches shorter than you (and a female) and based on my records, it looks like I maintain in the 2000's. Anything less and I will generally lose.

Try not to stress (I know, I know, easier said) and just enjoy the ride...your body will find its equilibrium eventually.

My tip for adding extra cals in a pinch: Avocados, Nuts/Seeds and CHICHARRON (my fave, lol).

Edited to add:

Oh, and if you are interested, check out this thread. I started it a couple weeks ago so maintainers specifically can see/share how we are handling our food intakes (so far its mostly just me posting though, lol. And @FluffyChix sometimes ❤️ :

I’m 1 month plus out and I feel like I eat too much. I get too close to 1000 for my liking

As you may recall, I'm trying to increase my calories now that I'm in maintenance. I ate two large spoonfuls of Peanut Butter yesterday, which was delicious--but I ended up dumping like never before and felt sick for the rest of the day. I should note that this was organic peanut butter with no sugar added, so I'm guessing it must have been the fat.

I have had some success with cheese and crackers, but I'd be interested in other suggestions. What are some examples of healthy carbs?

You may be right, 1000 cals may be on the high side this early in the game (1 month po, right?). Can you reach out to your team for guidance?

Dumping sucks. It's the one bane of my existence post-op. Everything else I can get used to, but Dumping? Nope.

As for "healthy" carbs, you can try sweet potatoes, carrots, Beans, lentils, quinoa...

Naturally, as soon as I questioned the instruction from my most recent appointment (and complained that the current calories were too low for me to avoid losing) I stopped losing. Nothing for almost 2 weeks now. So annoying! Now that I've set my mind on losing another 10-15 pounds, I'm hoping it's just another stall and not my new set point.

It always takes 3-5 days to see the scale move either up after high cals or down after low cals for me

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
