I don't thing you are. :) And I'm not picking nits. But I honestly am wondering like, "So what if it isn't sustainable..." Cuz you know, what's the alternative? If it's not sustainable and a person gains at 900, 1000, or at 1100 where you are. Then what are the choices?

Just wondering out loud. Truly not trying to disagree. It's a philosophical question. Right? I told my PCP, that I didn't want to be one of those people who only maintain at 900cals. And that I didn't want to eat only 900 cals per day.

He told me, that right now, that's my reality. If I want to change that, I have to do something differently. I can choose to eat higher and gain. I can choose to start building more active muscle to try to raise my metabolic rate and have more calorie burning muscle (and be hungrier from the workouts), I can do more cardio (which might not work cuz of the whole CICO/hormone thing)...or I can do what my body is telling me and figure out a way to be happy on an average of 900cals/day.

Right? Or is there another option I should consider?

Everyone's weight loss journey is soooooo different...and this is the sobering fact of life. What works for Jane doesn't necessarily mean it will work for Jack. Some of us accept this in stride, some of us need more time to get used to the idea, and still some of us rail against it and lament (or rejoice) the fact their experience is not like another's. One person gains at 1300 cals/day, another maintains, and then still another would lose at this level. Not to say this won't change for any of them in the future, but that is their reality, right now.

Which is why everyone tells us time and time again not compare ourselves to others. But lets face it, we all do, it's human nature. I guess maybe a better thing to say is, "When you compare yourself to others, use it as a motivator, not as a deterrent to get to (or stay at) a place where you are happy with where you are".

Dunno why this made me sad writing this. Gonna go post something lighthearted now!

Interesting discussions.
Okay, so I’ve been a big chicken to get on the scale since I hit GW.

I know myself too well: if I were to have any kind of gain, the sky is falling, I’ve “failed” at WLS, I’m doomed to be able to never go >1200 cals per day, etc...

In short, I needed a little bit of time and perspective to get a grip on the fact that I did indeed get to GW.

so since then (12 days ago) I’ve eaten on plan, with the exception of 3 days and I was horrible those 3 days.
As in 3-4 cocktails, beer chili, nachos and chocolate cake bad.
Those days were a birthday, football watch party, and hubs getting a huge contract signed “celebration” days

Each time after the 3 days in question, I followed them with 16:8 TRE, and meticulously logging and keeping it to <800 calories and < 20 carb days.
I’ve also had a few “normal” 900-1000 calorie days and an eating window between 8-10 hours for balance. Lol, I even allowed myself 1/2 cup tabouli salad for some extra carbs on one of those days

So today I got on the scale (no poop in 4 days ) also, so tomorrow is a MOM day
I’m down 1.2 pounds from the Friday the 11th.
Seriously this isn’t the worst news ever bc I’ve felt like I really messed up big-time and it’s nice to see that I can (at least for now) recover.
The part I was fearing the most was not being able to recover from a “feast” day and that I’d just continue to mindlessly eat, and eat, and eat.....

I know my body is still in honeymoon and that what works this month may not work 3 months from now, but it’s nice to know that I quite frankly had atrocious habits for 1/4 of the time and still could see some kind of loss. It was especially nice to be able to come back strong and get right back on track.

So, the movers came this morning to deliver our last items of furniture. (We recently moved from the U.S. to Australia.) One of them asked whether I have grandchildren here! AAGH! I am 60 years old, so I of course know that is physically possible, but I have always looked quite a bit younger than my age. That is no longer the case since surgery, which was proven by the mover's question.

But still--his first question is whether I have grandchildren? Why not children?! ☹️

@cupcake817 Dr. Weiner on YouTube has discussed African American women losing less percentage wise after bariatric surgery. They don’t know why. I found a Huffington Post story addressing the differences in weight loss. I found it interesting. Might explain why you maintain on a low calorie diet.

I feel you. Unfortunately for some of us unlucky few, looking older WISER (lol) after weight loss is an occupational hazard. This summer, a house painter asked if my 30 year old neighbour was my daughter. Dude. I'm only 47. (EDIT: actually just realized that at the time he asked I was still only 46!!!)

Said neighbour attempted to soften the blow by saying it was more a compliment for her rather than a diss on me. Nice try, lady. You many look awesome for 30, but that doesn't make me less wiser-looking.

What age range was he in?

My moment was with my dentist. He said... if you were MY mother, I would do X procedure. At least he didn’t say I could be his grandmother.

We are in Canberra. We lived here from 2014 to 2017 and fell in love with it!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
