So at 7 weeks, I've decided to try a salad yesterday as I've been greatly craving salads. It was the absolute worst idea I've had in a long time, and I've had some doozies! It was a southwest, spring mix salad with all the green veggies I love to eat along with grilled chicken. My sleeve hollered at me so bad, i threw up everything and felt that pain in my stomach afterwards. needless to say, I'M SO DIVORCING SALADS as of that moment! I've declared! ok ok, maybe divorce is a strong word, but do you think it'll get better for me? i missed salads so much and was so happy to chomp on some greenery.

Maybe it was a Legal Separation instead of a total divorce, but I do understand where you're coming from. I'm not as brave as you but caught myself taking a spoonful of left-over dressing from the bottom of Tomkittens bowl. Sad--isn't it?
They do say eventually you will be able to tolerate it , not sure if it is the truth, or merely to shut the questioner up. 9be if the few things in life I am hesistant about. You see I have upchucked so often on things that should be okay I am scared to rock my 🚢🚤boat!

You will be able to eat salads again but need to take it one step at a time. First, try just a plain salad and the little by little add your veggies. I love salads myself and started slow. I don't eat much of it period. Just don't start out strong. Just a little at a time.

I've been afraid to try one yet. I'm 5.5 months post-op. I just have the feeling my stomach will reject it.

I must have an Iron sleeve because I have already had salad and had no issues. I was able to start "normal" foods last week already, per my surgeon's program.

I can eat salad with no problem. I tried it for the first time at about 6 weeks. I don’t eat it often though. It’s too filling and I can’t get my Protein in.

No divorce yet, but restraining order for sure! You just need more time. I don't think I could handle greens for 6 months or longer.

So at about what point are we able to eat things like cucumbers, tomatoes, or raw zucchini? Of course with the understanding that everyone's tolerance is different.

I started eating salads 6 months post op according to my trams plans and even then i went single ingredient style so i could test the waters.

Hopefully you will be able to rekindle your deep and abiding love for the greenery after this trail separation 😀

Try again at 10 weeks? I can totally relate! I had Poke bowl on my 5th week and resulted pretty much same as yours. I can now eat salad. Actually, I now enjoy eating salad coz I can eat longer, and I don't get as full quicker than if I'd eat let's say, a sandwich.

For the first 3 months should not be any uncooked veggies and no greens at al as they can be stringy or have stems hard to digest. This is per my wls team. I’m sure different surgeons have slightly different diet plans and I have noticed that my team at Duke is quite strict about progressing very slow. I will not be able to have salad for the first 6 months. I would give it a little more time before you try again. You may want to try first small amounts of uncooked veggies later and see how that agrees with your stomach. Allow yourself to have some up and downs along the way. Definitely don’t jump to divorce any beloved foods just yet.

Bibb lettuce, Protein and dressing. I make a peanut sauce using PB2. Eat your protein first and take it slow. I started off with a lettuce wrap (bibb). Bibb lettuce is delicate and a good foray into salads.

I am at Duke, too (Duke Regional). It is nice to see another RTP'er.

Continued success to you.

Everyone is different and so are their prescribed plans :) I was able (and allowed) to eat salad after 1 month.

My Bariatric Surgery Book (written/given to me by my surgeon and nutritionist) says that I can eat that one week after my surgery. I had my VSG Surgery on 5/13/19 and have been been eating all of those veggies and fruits since 5/20/19. Everything has gone smoothly for me so far. 👍🏻

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
