Any August 2019 people out there?

Recommended Posts

I was running behind schedule and was afraid I was going to be late to my post op appointment. I arrived five minutes before my appointment. I advised the medical assistant that my blood pressure was probably goin g to be through the roof. She took my blood pressure and it was 103/71. I have never, ever had a blood pressure reading that low. I am on three blood pressure medications. I have been monitoring my BP all week and they are consistently in the one hundred over high sixties or low seventies. I had heard that many people stopped meds after surgery but I was never expecting it to happen so fast.
I had anticipated having my surgery in February but some unforeseen circumstances caused me to have to wait and I did not have my surgery until August 19th. My last visit with my PCP I had managed to lose 27 pounds. At my pre-op appointment had managed to lose another 8 pounds. Then with the two weeks of pre-surgical liquid diet and the two weeks of post surgical liquid diet, I have lost a total of 67 pounds. I haven't been this light in at least 25 years!
Today for the first time since my surgery, I was able to ride my recumbent bike for a full thirty minutes. It is amazing to me that I feel so wonderful after such a short recovery period.

Congratulations!!![emoji122][emoji122][emoji122][emoji123][emoji123][emoji123][emoji123][emoji123][emoji106][emoji106][emoji106][emoji106] So so happy for you! Many more amazing feats!!!

22 days post-op! Eating soft solids has been fine, but I still struggle with fluids. The feeling of the liquid hitting my stomach pouch and very unpleasant and causes a feeling of uncomfortable fullness and nausea. I'm averaging 48oz/day though, so I'm only a little dehydrated. Trying to get to 64oz is challenging. I do great with the sugar-free popsicles, but I can't eat 16 of those per day.

Also, the area around my large incision where they took out the stomach is starting to sting again, sometimes intensely if I twist or bend a certain way. It feels like it's just the skin and muscle, so I'm not worried. It's just annoying because I had like a week with no pain and now it's back!

I agree with pain by incision. When I set up to fast, turn wrong - all of that. I'm a week out today and still trying to figure out ways to get in more liquids as well. Only thing I'm doing excellent in is taking my Vitamins & that's better than nothing : ) What soft foods have you done thus far?

Hey it’s better than nothing! Keep pushing! I find on my walk home from work (not even a mile) I get down 16oz. Today is the first day I’ve gotten 40oz not including Soups or Protein Shakes, just Water and Gatorade zero. Other days were only 28oz without Protein shakes.

I know I’m 2 weeks post op and I get that stick when moving from laying on my stomach to my back.

Hello August sleevers![emoji112]
Had 3 weeks follow up and 16 lbs lost. It's not as dramatic as most people but I'm sincerely learning to be grateful to this tool and being patient to the process! The old me would have proceeded straight from doctor's office to the closest Bakery (I know where ALL the great ones are[emoji38]) and rewarded myself with my favorites and there the backslide starts BUT this new me went straight to sprouts to pick up more low fat cottage cheese and fage 0% yoghurt and went home celebrating and looking forward staying focused on the process and the cause [emoji123][emoji123]

Cleared to do some low impact work out at the gym so looking forward to that.

I hope you are all doing great and not letting that pesky scale "weigh you down " [emoji5][emoji5]. Stay focused, love your bodies and stay GRATEFUL 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡[emoji176][emoji176][emoji176][emoji176][emoji7][emoji7][emoji8]

Well said ! My surgery was just one day before you and I was hoping to be down more than I was on my 3 week visit this week however I was so happy to be able to start cottage cheese and pureed veggies yesterday ! I love farina and yogurt but I have been hungry and I am tiring of it. With the new foods yesterday and today I am feeling content. Decided to only weigh on Wednesdays and Sundays :)

We’re surgery twins! Sorry about your BP! I developed high BP this past January & that was just 1 reason for the surgery. A nurse taught me to have the person taking your BP to wait a few minutes before taking it. Have them do paperwork or whatever else has to be done and then.... take the BP! Congrats on your weight loss! Wow! That’s awesome. Since surgery I’m down 20 lbs & I’m excited with that. And like you.... I feel pretty darn good!! I’m not allowed to exercise yet until I hopefully get cleared in 2 weeks

12 days post op (surgery 8/21)

Question......I seem to be able to drink my Water normally now, no concern of slow sips. Are others like that too? I’m still full liquids so most goes through fast, but I’ve not had any feeling of fullness or anything like that.

im assuming maybe that starts when food is introduced???

My surgery was 8/19/19 & at this point I also can drink Water & all Clear Liquids normally with no issues. Here’s the ricotta bake I made.

I did use lighter cheeses. I served it to everyone at home over Pasta with sauce & mine was puréed. Everyone really enjoyed it! I’m loving tuna salad puréed & chili with cheese! Enjoy your puréed stage.

So glad to hear you are doing fantastic Chiptress!! Life is definitely better on the loser's bench!! I'm no longer feeling hopeless about weight loss or trying to plot the next diet!! [emoji119][emoji119][emoji119][emoji119]
It's not easy but I like to be where we are!

Ok... slightly depressed. I’m aware the hormones are at work. Just needed to remind myself. Snapping at family when I didn’t need to be. I’m not getting out much but I should probably push myself a bit. Today my stomach has been uneasy because I ate something last night I shouldn’t have. 19 days out I’m paying for it. I piece of a sushi roll!! Omg.. tasted like the best of anything I have ever tasted but I learned a lesson. Now is not the time. Have you felt down after surgery & what do you do to switch it around?

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
