I am 32 years old, I am 5 ft 9in and my current weight is 345 lbs my heaviest weights was 362 lbs. I have two children who are 13 and 10. I have been married for almost 14 years. I am scheduled to have surgery on the 19th of June if everything goes according to plan. I am excited and nervous all at the same time. I’m hoping that this time next year I can be back in the softball field and running in a 5k and more with my youngest son who is very active. I am so sick of sitting on the sideline in a chair. I want to be out there helping him practice and get back to my old active self. I was in a car accident when I was 17 which is when I started all my weight gain. Then at 18 I got pregnant and gained 90 lbs in 9 months lost 30 of it after having my oldest and then gained 75 when I got pregnant with my youngest. I want to wear high heels and not feel like I’m going to snap the heel. I want to get back to my Hot Mama self lol anyone else with me?
Good luck!! ❤️

Welcome Deanna...I also want to remain curvy but healthier. I never had trouble getting pregnant even though I was a bit overweight back then, but since I had small kids, I didn't want to take the risk of having the surgery and having complications or even death(this was back in the early 90s when this surgery was much higher risk). Now my kids are grown and I can focus on getting myself healthy.

Absolutely!! Wishing you all the luck in the world!! ❤️

So I didnt see a June thread and wanted to make one so we could all stay accountable and have a lot of good and bad experiences together!!! Introducing myself: My name is Kassandra, I am 27 years young, I have 3 great kids, a wonderful hubby, and 3 great cats. I'm a type 2 diabetic & have sleep apnea. I decided to do this to take my life back. I'm 5 ft 2 and 258 lbs. I had planned for the sleeve but my insurance won't cover it right now so RNY it is!

Hello, my date is June 26th, congrats to you it's right around the corner!

How is everyone doing? When are yall starting your liquid diet?

My doctor doesn’t need me to be on a liquid diet, however, I’m a little apprehensive so I’ll probably do a 5 day liquid diet at the end of May.

May 21st is my liquid diet start date. Two full weeks.

I have prepared by buying Vitamins, Protein of several varieties and all the other usual stuff people buy. Probably a lot less common, but I also bought a snow cone machine. :) I figure it might be nice to help get some liquid in early on when things are tough. I have tried freezing some of the clear fruity Isopure Protein Drink and then running it through the machine. Worked great! Maybe I can get both some Fluid and protein in this way, if needed. Also bought some Torani sugar free to change up the flavor of drinks and plain yogurt. Torani is also pretty great on the snow from the machine as a no cal snack!

Special hello to my June 3rd surgery siblings ChelseaMari and starladustangel !

So I actually thought the same and found some sugar free snow cone syrups at The store. We’ve had a snow cone machine for years and I pull it out every summer but was thinking it will be a lifesaver when I’m recovering if the cold doesn’t bother me too much. I can tell you I’ve used vanilla syrups in them before and loved them. You can mix with fruity flavors too if you like creamsicles.

Good Morning All!

I found out about this surgery a few months ago when running into a friend I had not seen for 10 years. I did not recognize her at all. After chatting with her and then doing research on Dr. Google I was feeling like, " HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS WAS A POSSIBILITY FOR ME"???? I have been a high level athlete since my teenage years who has tried every single diet to stay lean enough, and barely succeeding at that, with a collar coaster of loss and gain.

I am beyond excited to have this done, slightly terrified at the huge change in my stomach and intestine, and embarrassed to actually tell people what I am doing.

I have had to do it privately because I don't qualify through healthcare because I don't have a high enough BMI, not enough health issues, etc.. I am 43 years old, 244 pounds and 5'9". This is unhealthy and causes me joint pain, limits my abilities in my passions, and has always been " THE BANE OF MY EXISTENCE"! When I told my sister, she CRIED with joy for me! She knows I have spent my whole life fighting to try and stay a reasonable weight.

Well, my surgery is booked for June 6th and I am BEYOND excited!!!! I start the shakes on May 23rd.

Good Luck to everyone! I love reading about everyones journeys. It is a privilege.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
