Looking for Protein Shake for Sensitive Stomach

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I have searched the threads for shakes but most that are mentioned have milk product in them (I'm lactose intolerant) I have also contacted my nutritionist and I have tried the ones that she suggest like plant based, I tried "Plant Head" a vegan Protein Shake and I thought I was on to something, two weeks later it was not agreeing with me anymore...Anyone out there have a very sensitive stomach like myself and have found a shake that works well for them please let me know.

I'm 5 months post op and having a problem getting all of my Protein in so a good protein shake would be great for me to add into my meal plan. I've tried yogurts and also a lactose free yogurt that I found at Walmart and they make me ill.

Right now my appetite is very low, I eat my 3 meals a day and every now and then I may have a snack in between meals. I can only eat between 2- 4 oz. at each meal and feel full. (It's funny because I DO NOT lose weight fast eating such a small amount) I'm okay with that because with thyroid and menopausal issues I' m so grateful to have lost what I've lost in 5 months :D

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

I use GNC Lean shake which is no diary, no lactose, no gluten. I drink the chocolate ones. They're very good and have 25 g of Protein per 14 oz shake. I use the premade shakes.

The ingredients list filtered skim milk as the second ingredient. Maybe there is a link to a lactose free version?

Thanks for the info, I am going to see if I can find it in lactose free.

This isn't an ideal situation cuz the Protein is too low for the calories. :( But it is a smoothie that is fairly healthy if higher carb.

It's a Peanut Butter banana and blueberry green smoothie and it tastes so much like a milk shake! You can add ice to it, decrease the soy milk to around a 1/2 cup (or whatevs).

Lactaid, Mootopia, and Fairlife all have lactose free milk. Also trying whey protein isolate rather than say Premier Protein which is a blend of concentrate and isolate, might be friendlier. I use Isopure bananas and cream for my smoothies. LURVE!!! Think you can get it at GNC!

I use vitacost Peanut Butter powder but you can use PB2. If you don't like banana flavor and want to cut carbs you can sub avocado for the banana and you can freeze the avo to make it more milkshakey.

I recommend you buy Whey Protein Isolate powder and make your own lactose-free Protein Shakes.

I really like Protein Powder from UNJURY. You can order single-serve packets to determine which flavors you prefer before committing to a large container. I like the unflavored powder as I can add it to a lot of food and beverages to bump up my protein intake.

I hope you find something you can drink. This is really tough as it is, nevermind adding in outside restrictions. I am fortunate enough to not need to but i feel your pain. I hope you find something soon so you can get all your Protein in.

Whey Protein Isolate (WPI) is lactose-free and is a superior form of protein. Try it before plant-based protein products as they have a lot less protein which isn’t as absorbable by our bodies, and they taste worse compared to WPI products.

I second the idea of whey Protein isolate (lactose free) over vegan proteins! I'm not a big fan of soy in any form cuz of the implications of it and flax with hormone positive bc!

Thank you, It was easier in the beginning to get the Protein in because I always added a shake in, I'm going to try the suggestions given here and I will keep you posted.

Thanks again ;-)

True...when I used the vegan brand I had to double the recipe and add Peanut Butter powder to get enough protein and flavor. You all ROCK!! When all else fails and you've tried everything, go to the experts at BPal 🙌

Thanks again!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
