Does seem high in comparison with others at this point...generally slower the first few weeks due to inflammation, IV fluids, Water weight loss in pre op diet prior to surgery....but we don't know your circumstances, so it may be normal for you.

Do make sure you are getting at least 60grams of Protein a day (or whatever quantity in your guidelines provided by your dietician), make sure you are drinking plenty of water.

My daughter had a kidney stone at about 2 months out. It was really painful & passed by itself.

I am really loving the flavorless Protein Powder I bought. I put it in my water to kill 2 birds with one stone. Thank you for answering!!!

I have kidney stones but probably started growing them pre-surgery since I was treated for a bunch of UTI for blood in my urine the year prior. I didnt feel like I had a uti, no painful pee etc. But passed 2 after surgery and had the tell tale back pain to go with them so that pointed to kidney stones. And then I started filtering my pee and there was enough sand to fill a bucket. Not really but peeing sand feels bad too. I have to have surgery next month because I have a 1.5 centimeter one that is too big to pee out. I came to snoop the forums because the kidney stone diet is totally nuts. And doesnt mesh with after surgery diet. Going to a new appt with new bariatric docs (since I now have kaiser) to figure out wtf. Kidney guy doesnt want me to take any Vitamins over 100% RDA and non Protein powder and no collagen. He is deferring to the bariatric docs whom I assume will refer back to him. Basically I'll follow bariatric stuff because I dont want to die from too little protein etc. So be prepared when the urologist hands you the most absurd diet you have ever seen. Only corn, squash, kale, parsnips and 6oz max total all day for animal protein: chicken, pork, fisg, low fat dairy. No spinach, no fruit, no anything. They actually said sugar was ok wtf. I am sort of freaking out.

Omgoodness. That is absurd. My urologist appt is in a few hours, so I'm super glad I read your reply in time. I've never thought to filter my pee. How did you do that? And to have a done too large to pass is my fear, which apparently you now have to contend with. Yikes. I've heard of the procedure where they can blast it into smaller pieces with Water waves or something. But then i'm like, um not on my tender stomach you wont! As far as the diet goes, I'm only 2 weeks post OP so I cant fathom corn. It seems as if treating kidney stones after wls is dangerous. I'm wondering WHY they dont include the risk of stones in the multitude of things to watch for after surgery. Considering that we are 200 percent more likely to develop it after wls than average people. I'll update you after my appt today. My heart goes out to you!!!!

Let me know how it goes. A big thing I have noticed is how unfamiliar other doctors are with wls and how it works with other ailments like kidney stones. The ER told me to filter my pee but didn't give me a filter. About 4 days later my pcp gave me one. Looks like a plastic funnel with mesh at the end. I also bought a set of paper disposable filters I think people use to filter paint (I just searched kidney stone filters on amazon). Its crucial to catch the stone or stone fragments so they can see what it is made of and that will dictate your diet and how they can treat it.

And if you're financially challenged like me,an old colander/strainer You don't want to use for food and put a coffee filter in it
I have a "hat" for catching urine, PCP gave me a stack because I had to catch stool after pancreatitis, you tend to have greasy ones post. White and you put it under seat of toidy. looks like half circle.

I have had many and I went to a specialist and told me, it's fine, no big deal. Famous last worlds.
I dont want to scare you or anyone else but I either people be safe then sorry.
After many infections and antibiotics, it was becoming monthly visits.
I was probably about 7 years out. On a Christmas eve I thought I had the flu. I started throwing up, then a fever. I sat on the bed to take my temp and it was 103. All I remember is saying "call 911". And I had no idea I walked to the ambulance, I felt them cut my clothes off. They thought I was have a heart ache. Went through the Cath lab. Nothing.
My husband said what about the kidney stone so they did a full body scan. It was trying to exit my body. They went in and pushed it back. Mean while I was Septic from Dec 26 to Jan 4. Talked crazy out of my head.
Spent 3 weeks in the hospital, gained a bunch of weight and couldn't put my clothes on.
And so many stents in and out and that's so uncomfortable. They kept sending a young kid in for PT. And I was in a hospital gown and catheter. So I told him to get out.
He said I will tell your doctor and I said that's fine I am not afraid of him either.
So I went home and taught myself to walk again.
A month later, I went back because I got sick again. I had 3 cysts trapped around the kidney and killed the kidney.
Had to be on IV antibiotics for months at home with a drain out my back.
So if a doctor says you cant die from a kidney stone, don't believe them.

Thanks for that info. I am currently fighting my insurance company because I went to the ER with my first kidney stone on Tgiving. I was only a couple of weeks out of rny so I didnt know what was going on. Even throwing up small sips of Water. They think it wasn't medically necessary and could have waited for an appt with my pcp 4 days later because of Tgiving weekend. Luckily I went to urgent care first and that doctor told me to go straight to the er and even called ahead and I skipped the line. If it wasn't for that I would be on the hook for the tens of thousands of dollars in er fees. Too big of a kidney stone that needs surgery as well but because they didnt do it right there on the spot my ins company is denying the claim.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
