My Road to a Better Me

Recommended Posts

Hi Friends,

I had my gastic sleeve surgery on July 30th, 2018. I started out at 297 pounds, as of today I have lost 122 pounds and can not even begin to tell how much better my life is.

Last year on was on oxygen 24 hours a day, never left my house..Just getting bigger and bigger and in and out of the hospital constantly. I could not stand the way I looked and my hubby had to fight with me just to go out to dinner or anything. This was going on for more then 10 years and 99 percent of the time he always went everywhere alone.

Depression was severe..When I had to stop working and went on disability things only got worse. Then I was put in Medicare and found out they would cover the surgery..And with in 3 months I was headed to the OR...

I still have alot of back problems, but I feel amazing..I have a ways to go to hit my goal..But I am beyond amazed how good it has been!!20190112_082057.jpeg FB_IMG_1545439192739.jpeg FB_IMG_1545534572296.jpeg

Hi Sunflower! You must be so proud and congratulations being free of any oxygen apparatus. You are an inspiration to us all. I wonder if working with a physical therapist as per surgeon's permission might work out the residual back issues? You are certainly standing here strong and lean. And, hopefully, enjoying a few dinner dates with hubby. ;]

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
