Check to make sure your protein is covered by insurance

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

This may have been discussed before but for newer people I wanted to bring it up again...but I checked with my insurance company (Blue Shield) and if my doc writes a prescription for my Protein my insurance company will cover the cost. I dont know how long or how much but Im definitely going to be asking for a script when I see him tomorrow for my pre op. Whatever portion they're willing to cover is fine with me! It never hurts to ask right?

My doctor has said that she does not write prescriptions for Protein Drinks, nor for Vitamins. I'm okay paying on my own, because I figure I will still be spending less than I spent on food before surgery (including many meals in restaurants).

Saw my doctor yesterday and he said he didn’t know he could even do that. I talk to somebody at the insurance company so I know for a fact that it is true that they cover it. I think it will save me at least a couple hundred dollars

I have BCBS Highmark and they will not cover it because it's considered a food product.

I've never heard of insurance covering Protein. My surgeon wrote me a prescription for soft-chew Vitamins, but my insurance doesn't cover them, so I'm buying them out-of-pocket at GNC.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
