February 2019 weight loss buds

Recommended Posts

This is so exciting. I have my date for Feb 5th and I am getting myself prepared. I have my gym membership going and I am actually going. I am getting my routine down so that when I have those 2 weeks post-op I can really make the most out of them

Sleeveless, I have the same date for my surgery. February 18

Great! I have a sleeve buddiversary🤗. I’m looking forward to the changes 2019 brings. I’ll post a quarterly timeline starting with 2018, pre-op day, June, Oct and Feb 2020 for 1 yr anniversary. I meet with Nutritionist for pre-op diet instructions next week. I don’t think I will do liquid diet right away since there will be about over two weeks before surgery date though. If I lose too much, may interfere with insurance qualifications.

I got my preop diet after talking with the dietician on the phone. Two weeks prior I have to cut out dairy, sugar, and carbs. I can eat as much meat and veggies throughout the days

That's amazing. I guess all surgeons have different requirements. I have to be on a complete all-liquid diet 10 days before surgery. Its gonna be hard!

Hi hi hi February buddies!

So I had my last meeting with my surgeon pre-op earlier this week... we're all go for the 15th (that'll be the 14th your time--as we're ahead here in NZ). He's put me first on the list because of anxiety, so it'll be nice to get it out of the way early!

I had a misstep and a half-day "break" from my pre-emptive pre-op diet. Said goodbye to a few delicious carby things. Surgeon said 2 weeks of Opti, Dietician said three... doesn't matter much, as I'm back on it now anyway. 10kgs down, and after my day off earlier this week I'm back to losing!

I don't know if anyone here is doing Optifast or powdered shakes... but I thought I'd share a few tips and tricks I've learned over the past couple weeks:

  • Make up chocolate shakes with coffee, or orange low-calorie cordial/juice for different flavours.
  • Make up vanilla shakes with tea, and/or 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp each of nutmeg and ginger for 'chai' and 'vanilla spice' flavours.
  • Make up low-cal jelly with half as much Water, cool it down, and whizz it up (while it's still liquid) with an ice-cold shake to make a 'flummery' style pudding.
  • Make up low-cal jelly with half to quarter as much water and set in a tray. Cut up into small pieces and add to shakes or tea to get a kind of 'bubble tea'.
  • It's summer over here, but I'm loving making spicy roasted eggplant Soup, roasted Tomato Soup, and zucchini noodles in homemade Tomato sauce for my 2c vegetable allowance!
  • Above all, keep tea and coffee and other mixers in the fridge! And try to stay away from artificial sweeteners as much as possible... diet coke and low-cal cordials in large quantities give me killer carb cravings!

Anyways, I hope this might help... if not, sorry for tantalizing you with food talk! 😂

Emzbee,

Congrats on a date! You will be going two days ahead of me. Thanks for all the great liquid-diet ideas. I know I will need them come February 3 when I start my all-liquid diet. So, just curious, how long has the process been in NZ? For me in the States, it took about 4-5 months once I had my first visit with the surgeon. Is it longer is NZ? Are you required to lose a certain amount of weight prior to being accepted for surgery? I ask because I am wondering how the program works in other countries. I'm fascinated by how different it is depending on who you have as a surgeon. Some folks, I understand, don't even have to go on a pre-op diet, or maybe just a 24-hour one. You live in my favorite country, by the way. 😀

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
